Xenonk Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Im seriously considering getting one really BIG front lip/splitter for the GT.. when I mean big, I mean BIG like: http://www.justracing.com/images/misc/25hour/grid_big.jpg and Im also looking for a 2nd spare black trunk lid so I can mount a really BIG rear wing: http://www.justracing.com/images/misc/25hour/turn14_big.jpg only I want it wider so that it overhangs the and is at the same width as my side mirrors. I want about 9000 sq in. of pure rear downforce, and if I can about 400 up front from a splitter, that would be even better. I really want to see how this sucker holds itself down with such down force. I'll work out the actual math later to see what the down force will be when Im doing 100 mph. I want to put down some serious downforce so that when I do up the hp on the GT, it wont be as bad just running on a set of 265/35/18 r-compounds in a 3400 lbs car. Hey, it's a GT, nothing screams GT without a wing! Keefe
Xenonk Posted February 17, 2007 Author Posted February 17, 2007 I hope to average about 140mph at the back straight of VIR if I can do it.. Im already doing 130+ mph now.. it's just that I want down force so I can carry in more speed into the turns.. Keefe

Xenonk Posted February 17, 2007 Author Posted February 17, 2007 video is found here: http://www.putfile.com/xenonk I'd figure if I set up the car a little bit more loose, and use the downforce to stablize the car, it should be fun.. the great thing about aerodynamics is that it's speed-dependent.. so I can set up the car to be loose at slower speeds.. as the speed increases, I'll have some help from the wing to put some pressure down on the car to give it a tighter feel prior to entering the turn. Aczwild Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 You need the big side wings too JDM'd All to hell Thanks Jimmy @ Hkc-Speed.com! RIP Coxx & Thanks
PhilT Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Admit it, you only want a huge wing because you've run out of space to put more stickers Double Award Winning Legacy GT Wagon
Xenonk Posted February 17, 2007 Author Posted February 17, 2007 Admit it, you only want a huge wing because you've run out of space to put more stickers I still have the roof which is not touched yet I want the wings.. Im running out of suspension parts to mod.. only thing that is left for my car to do would be a full cage and fender flares to run some 315s Hoosiers. I'll be happy to reach the 300 whp mark and just call my car one of the slower GT300 class type car for time trials events... that's the direction that i will put my GT in for Time Trials with NASA one day. Right now, my car is classed as TT-D with NASA's regs.. It could be in TT-C, I dont want mod too far and run into TT-B which an E46 M3 is in.. it would take me way too much power modding to keep up with that car since it already has +1 over me on the suspension work. Tommyh Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 I'm just here for the pictures, I'm not gonna lie. Martin Luther - "Who loves not women, wine and song remains a fool his whole life long." EL4NFZT7
NSFW Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 I'm curious how long it takes to get from 90mph to 130mph, before and after adding the wing. I'm not saying you'll regret it, just saying I'm curious how much impact it will have.

I'm not saying you'll regret it, just saying I'm curious how much impact it will have. Im more concerned about the grip than the actual mph... but if I get a good run out of the corner exit because I can put down more speed through the previous corner, then it's all the better. Keefe
NSFW Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 I'm sure people wouldn't run wings if they didn't provide better lap times. Clearly there's a benefit. I'm just curious what the tradeoff is (numerically speaking).
Xenonk Posted February 17, 2007 Author Posted February 17, 2007 I'm sure people wouldn't run wings if they didn't provide better lap times. Clearly there's a benefit. I'm just curious what the tradeoff is (numerically speaking). Here's the funny thing from the last 2 years in autocross national level. Vic Sias of SF region in his M3 ran one of the biggest wings for his car.. he adopted his notion from AMod cars that have the HUGE wings like this car: http://www.gordon-glasgow.org/Images/haftner.jpg Vic Sias's M3 Street Mod in 2004 and 2005: http://www.plxdevices.com/PLXRacing/AutoCross/BMW_M3_SCCA_Champ2_Small.jpg Vic Sias's with a BIGGER wing in 2006: http://www.siastuning.com/06_Solo_Wed_2E_199.jpg http://www.siastuning.com AMod cars are the fastest cars in Autocross.. and Autocrossing speeds are everything well south of 70 mph.. Vic Sias won 2005, came back and won 2006 as well I think. But the field of competitors of having big wings grew TREMENDOUSLY from 2005 to 2006!! I think Vic started a trend of having large downforce possibilities. I wouldnt mind sacrificing the actual top end speed for the back straight if I can carry more speed into and out of a turn.. ultimately, you are coming out of the turn at a greater speed and have a better possibility of gaining your top speed sooner. With this in mind, the actual concern here is: "Will I be increasing my over top average speed?"... and having top average speed will result in a faster lap time.. Keefe
Aczwild Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Holy shit Keefe what the hell tire size is he running in the rear?????? That fucker is huge!!!!!!!!!!:eek: JDM'd All to hell Thanks Jimmy @ Hkc-Speed.com! RIP Coxx & Thanks

NSFW Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Drag increases with the square of speed though... That wing would cost you a lot more at 130 than it costs him at 70. Anyway, like I said, the numbers would be interesting.
NSFW Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 But if you want to go big: http://www.fansview.com/racing/0515d010.jpg
