Different from model to model. My Kenwood/Garmin set-up uses an SD card to update the software and maps. My Dad's Magellan uses a usb cable. Either way, what ever it takes will be included with your system. FYI, you can get the actual updates from Garmin's website. ignore him, he'll go away. bosco
i have the Garmin Nuvi 350 and it is the best GPS i've had the pleasure to use. updating the unit is easy. when you register the unit you will be asked if you want to recieve announcements/updates info via email when there is an update you will recieve an email with the Garmin site listed (announcements/updates) go to that site plug your Nuvi into a USB port with supplied cable it will download update and your done. bosco Stay Stock Stay Happy

rvlmtfnk
i mean, shouldn't there be some sort of update every once in a while? what happens if new roads are built etc? i still have to pay to update the maps to show newly constructed roads? Deer Killer
you wouldnt go to the bookstore and ask them to draw in the new road into your old map now would you? Wow that's incredibly Luddite. Good luck paying $700 or whatever it is for a new set of discs every year (that's around what it's been in the past for some other cars)

Good luck paying $700 or whatever it is for a new set of discs every year (that's around what it's been in the past for some other cars) $75 is what the garmin disc would cost for north america and who really needs the msot current map? 90% of the roads poi and what not will be the same for a few years and if not most ppl are clever enough to read road signs as well and adjust accordingly

meier motor sports
they might have new poi (points of interest) and have new roads in there. but its going to very much the same as what u have already most likely http://shop.garmin.com/cartography/mapsource/update/cd_update_details.asp?CD=010-10391-06 or http://shop.garmin.com/cartography/mapsource/update/cd_update_details.asp?CD=010-10810-
