Any wheels with a real lip?

NSFW

Recommended Posts

I only want deep dish pizza.

A half-inch of lip would be plenty, it's the curvy spokes that I want to get away from.

half inch is nothing, you want 18x10s ;) [i need some fender flares to cover the tires and have the fender flares molded, but you get the idea]

Isn't this backwards, isn't a 50 offset on a 7.5" wheel deeper than a 45 offset?

if both rims at 7.5" wide, and one is 50mm and the other is 45mm, then the 45mm rim has a deeper lip by 5mm by default unless the spokes are curved in somehow.

the higher the number (assuming that the rim widths are the same), then the face of the rim is shallower. lower the number, then the deeper the lip... remember, offset is based on the centerline of the rim..

so if a rim is 8" wide, then a 0 offset means you have a 4" lip (since that's the halfway point of the rim).

if the rim was 8" wide and the offset is +25mm (25.4mm = 1" btw), then that means the lip is 3".

Hope that makes sense.

I'm familiar with the offset situation. But like I said:

And that's all I'm looking for. There's no reason it can't be done. Of course I'm having a hard time finding wheels that are actually shaped that way, otherwise I wouldn't be asking around. :)

not quite because the design of spokes can really ruin the look of the deep lip. some spokes just end up bending back in a lot to create the faux lip. the spoke can really be straight for the most part and then bend in at the very end near the hope.. a rim like that comes to mind are the Racing Hart series:

No, Wont fit. 8" wide needs an offset of atleast 45, preferably 48

If you look at my wheels you'll see. I am running 18x8.5

you can run a 18x8 +40mm, but you would have to stretch a tire to make it work and run something like a 225/35/18 or a 235/35/18 tire to keep it away from rubbing the fender.. the main problem with those tires are that they are way under rated for weight capacity.. I personally dont recommend it, BUT you can make a 8" wide wheel with a +38mm work IF you have the suspension adjustment for camber, toe, and caster working to help you out along with fenders rolled and narrower tires stretched over the 8".

The widest I ran on a 17x8 +40mm rim on my GT is with a 245/40/17 R-compound and I ran around a -3.0 camber and +7.0 caster with the fenders rolled.. type in "Privat" for the search in the wheels/tires forum and you will see pics of my car with those rims.

This is what I originally thought, but after I researched I was all confused. Im looking at some 19x7.5 rims(No 8" option) there are two available offsets, 42mm and a recommended 48mm. But it appears the 42mm will be fine and yeild a 6mm deeper rim correct? And yes 6mm does count :icon_mrgr

42mm offset and 7.5" width would put the outside of the rim at the same place as an 48mm offset and 8" rim, which is what you see on the front of this car:

That guy says no fender mods were needed, so presumably it doesn't rub, but it sure looks close. Then again his car sits pretty low too.

no you don't, someone on the forum already is running lower than 40, something around 36 on his LGT with Axis

Huh??? So much conflicting information. Are you saying these Axis wheels will fit???

For example:

Axis Matrix 18"/8" 40 Offset 5-100

I'm guessing that whoever Hanger is talking about is running the low offset only on the rear wheels? There's more room in the back. Look at Oister's setup again:

http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22525

With an 8" wheel, there isn't much space left with a 48 offset up front, but he's running 8" & 38 offset in the rear.

I actually ran with 38 upfront before also...works OK...but you will need to spend more time adjusting the correct alignment and also get correct tire fitments. At that offset, there isn't much room for errors.
