VXCL
I believe there are already regulations in place to phase-in manditory on-board tire pressure monitors. yeah more expenses involved with new wheels. woo hoo!!!!! somebody spank me. jazzymt
Alright folks. Let's kill this thread before it spirals out of control. Here is some scientific data from a very reputable source: http://www.dupont.com/vamac/tr_gasperm.pdf YES, oxygen permeates through rubber faster than nitrogen. No, you will never be able to tell the difference between pure nitrogen and air (80% N2) seeping out of your tires - perhaps not even pure O2 vs N2 because they both permeate insanely slow - a leaky valve or hole is a lot more likely to catch your attention. For those that feel like reading up on a bunch-o-other-engineers hashing the subject out: http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=120996&page=1 Subaru Plug & Play Aux-in Mod www.jazzyengineering.com

just_phil
I seem to recall, from the little brochure from Costco a few years ago, that it said nitrogen is not as susceptible to expansion and contraction from temperature changes. *shrug* -Coelli +

feersum dreadnaught
1 mole = 602 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 = 6.02x10 to the 23 atoms or molecules at 0 °C and 1 atmosphere of pressure (standard conditions), 1 mole of any gas = 22.4 L duh. I thought every one knew this stuff.

Garandman
My prediction is that all new cars will eventually come with it, because soccer moms and their murse-carrying husbands don't check the air in their SUV tires, causing blow outs and roll overs.//// I thought murses came with air pressure gages? BTW, once you reach a certain age, soccer moms = yummy mummy club..... Who Dares Wins スバル
Boulderguy
A little off-topic... If air leaks so slowly from car tires, why is it bike tires go flat relatively quick? Is it just the thickness of the tire itself?
JuxtaGT
NERDS! I'm used to reading in the forums about guys trying to out testicle each other. But this is the out-science thread. Wow. (cough cough, engineer, cough)

Boulderguy
I think it's all she had. I asked what she was doing, she said it wasn't running great so she added some oil. She didn't see the oil fill cap under all the gunk so just figured it must go under this "big screw thingie."
