I heard they're going to mount the ignition switch under the sunroof, next to the sunglasses holder this time.

Power windows will be accessed through the glovebox tray, and the shifter will be mounted on the driver-side door.

Angry rooster-like griffons will still adorn the outer badging, and the cars will continue to sport turbocharged engines--while no accurate horsepower measurements or performance numbers will be available to quote any prospective buyers.

Don't forget they are also going to start using two stroke motors again, with the purchase of the car you get a mixing station to take gasoline and mix it with two stroke oil in large quantities. Also the windshield wipers will be mounted on the A-pillars, and the control stalk for them will be placed on the back side of the front bumper in between the radiator and the bumper.

Saabs and Ikea furniture...

I have visions of buying an entire Saab automobile that comes in a 1 foot by 2 foot box. All you need is Elmers glue and two allen wrenches to put it together. The bonus is that the glue and the wrenches come in the kit!!!!

How many people would put thaty mofo together inside and have a heck of a time trying to get it out of their house?

:)

Other things mentioned:

The Black Turbo project is a definite starter with a predicted rating in the order of 300 to 325 horsepower. Still no definite word as far as I know about whether or not Black Turbo is an actual model name, or just an internal one. Personally, I hope they call it a Viggen.

The production timetable for the next few years is told to me as follows:

1.) 2008 9-3 - Summer 2007 - No surprise

2.) 2008 9-3 AWD - Late Fall 2007

3.) Black Turbo - Early Spring 2008

4.) 20" Wheels - 9-7X -2008 model year

5.) Late Summer/Early Fall 2008 - 9-4X

6.) And sadly - 9-5 Early Spring 2009

7.) Wild Cards - 2010-2011 sub 9-3 range , Hybrid 9-3.

Saab 9-5 Aero had a quicker 50-70 passing than a 911 turbo, based on Top Gear's road test. Just food for thought.

I miss ours, despite all the crap that went wrong on it. I hope they don't go RWD - GM's already done quite a number on them. Besides, RWD doesn't make sense for winter climates, snow tires or not. Ours was rock solid in the D.C. area ice storms - never slid or anything. Only issue was when the tires got encased in ice and frozen to the ground...then 2WD required us to break out the pickaxe.

I don't like the chrome strip. In any case next year the new one should come out. Hopefully it'll cue from this, although the rear needs to be reworked:

I like this one as well since the "one grill" design is more subtle:

All I know is that Subaru at least around here has the same amount of respect that Lexus or Acura has. (My friend that works at Lexus said his co workers sweat my car like crazy)

Personally I hold Lexus in higher esteem than Acura. And Acura's been around longer.

These tests are absolutely pointless. Cause they stick the car in its highest gear and then romp the pedal. If they allowed the car to downshift the sabb would be eating porsche exhaust.

It has to be one of the most misleading automotive tests ever devised.

I really hope the 9-3 is not based on the GM epsilon chasis like the current one is...

EDIT: oh noes... it actually will be... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Epsilon_platform

Gotta love the Swedish pop.

The 40-70 test was done in second gear (if we can believe Clarkson).

I almost bought a 9-3 Viggen a few years ago. Awesome looking, the lines were classic Saab and a nice bit of power...but the FWD torque steer about pulled me into a tree. I returned to the lot and thanked the dealer for his time...which sucked because I loved its looks.

When I got frustrated in trying to by my Leggy wagon I had an appointment set up to go test drive the Sportcombi (9-3 wagon) but my dealer found my car before I had time to go drive it.

I have a feeling the new 9-3 wagon (maybe a Viggen?!?) will be on my short list when its time to get rid of my wagon RWD or AWD and those looks and no Legacy wagon option still I see my driveway's future...that looks great!

I believe the key is placed in the center console for safety reasons. Your leg and knee can get pretty beat up slamming into a keychain at 60mph. (At least thats what I remember reading) I used to like SAABs back when they were fresh and unique. The current lineup offers nothing above the competition. Cheap weird interiors, no technology, midpack performance and they aren't even a good deal. The 9-7 is a joke but seems less dated then the rest of the lineup.

At least they make good seats.... Volvo is slipping in this area.

Regarding the key...what you have said is correct. Additionally, placing the key structure in the console allows for extra reinforcement of the cylinder, which supposedly makes SAABs very difficult to hotwire.

Hopefully the redesigns will address your concerns. I'm personally not a fan of the refreshed 9-5 - I think the previous two versions looked vastly better both inside and out. I just hope the redesign will keep the cupholder and the orange and green lighting scheme.

cripes... how high is the trunk lid on that thing??? can you see over it when you stand behind the car?

I think the wedge shape thing only suits certain cars. seems like most are going nuts, and the tail is 5 feet off the ground. you need those parking sensors so not to back over small trees and trash dumpsters.
