SPT Catback for 07 Spec.B?

I just purchased an 07 Spec.B and the dealer will install the new SPT "Power Pack" catback exhaust for $1K. Anyone know how the SPT catback compares with others? I don't want my warranty voided, so I'm leaning toward letting the dealer do this.

a catback by itself weather is be SPT or not will and CANNOT void your warranty and if you are told it can by anyone they are wrong. Contact your local Rep if anyone ever tries to and if he is unhelpful then call his boss. A Catback by itself cannot damage any functioning engine component and thus has no way of voiding any warranty of any type.

Don't mod your car until you have finished the break in period of roughly the first 1,000 or 1,500 miles and do not exceed 4,500 rpm's during that time no matter how tempting it may get. Improper break in can and will only lead to problems down the road. Also do not drive your car hard until it is completely warmed up "this meaning the engine and transmission". A good way to judge when it is properly warmed up is when the gauge reads normal in the car at roughly half way then wait 10 minutes while driving courteously until you try and really push the trans aswell.

 

Take my advice or ditch it to the curb if you like but its what I've learned from my own personal Subaru Master Tech with over 20years of working on subaru's...!

The 07 Spec.B has a blue idiot light that is on until the engine is warmed up enough to switch to "SI #" mode. I haven't had the vehicle above 3500 rpms yet and have kept it in the "I" mode and plan do to so until at least 1K miles. Would the forged pistons I put in void the warranty? (just kidding). :icon_wink

Well I have see a lot of opinions on warming the car up. What works best in my opinion is warming her up for 30-45 seconds, then trying to stay out of boost (3k rpm) Until she is at normal operating temps. I cannot not do 100 percent of the time because I do tend to run late. but i still do not go over 4500 within the first 10 minutes of driving :)

 

In essence the car should be warmed up by being driven carefully, rather than letting her idle for a few minutes.

Yup. Keep it below 3k rpm and out of boost until oil reaches operating temperature (80-90 C). Boost gauge and oil temp gauge help.

 

Note, you can build quite a bit of boost under 3k rpm. Boost is primarily throttle dependent, not just rpm dependent. I.e you can drive at 5k rpm and no boost.

Wrong. Idling is not good for engine and does not warm up the engine quickly. Besides it's not just engine to be warmed up.

 

Just give it 15-45 secs, depending how cold is, and drive easy.

When I said warming up, that meant idling it for 30-45 seconds, then driving carefully until everything reached normal temps.
