Driver side mirror loose

Recommended Posts

A search turned up nothing, which surprised me!

Anyway, my driver side mirror is loose. I couldn't figure out why it all of a sudden seemed to look like a fun house sometimes when I looked at it (been going on for a couple months now) until I was on the freeway today and could see the mirror moving back and forth in the wind! What's crazier is that this happened to my '02 Impreza on the passenger side too! In that case, they just replaced the mirror under warranty. The scary part ... mileage is 36,400 right now.

We'll see how good the service is from Subaru. I'll call 2 dealers on Monday and see what they say.

Naw ... I mean the mirror swings on its pivot! It "folds" in the wind ... not completely yet, but that's what eventually happened in my '02 RS.

I've seen it on other Subies too, I just would have figured that maybe they would have fixed the problem by now. Guess not.

My bad...mizundastood you. Now that's an interesting issue. I take it you don't regularly fold the mirror back and forth either...it just gets loose? Hmmmmm. Stick a piece of folded cardboard in the hinge.
It is still ugly.

:whore: for Morrie's Brooklyn Park Subaru!

I had the exact same thing happen to my 2002 Impreza RS, but at like 18,000 miles. This time I realized what the problem was at 36,350 miles ... so I was afraid it wouldn't be covered under warranty. Brooklyn Park Subaru recognized that it was clearly a defect and covered the warranty despite being just over the warranty mileage range.

These guys rock. This dealership has ALWAYS done right by me. I drove past 2 other dealerships to have them look at this today, and for good reason. :D

Nope, I don't play with the mirrors, in both cases, though, the mirror that went bad always folded when going through car-washes, from the first day I owned it (Yeah yeah ... no auto washes ... I live in Minnesota ... scratches are better than letting 20 lbs of salt sit and rust the car).

Well, went back last week on Tuesday, and other than the appointment lasting about a half hour longer than scheduled, everything was smooth as butter. No complaints whatsoever. The service department at Brooklyn Park Subaru just plain rocks in my opinion.

Ok, probably last post in this thread, but this dealership continues to rock.

I filled out the Service Survey from Subaru - did it online like 2 days ago. Today I'm at work and get a call on my cell that I vaguely recognize. It was the Service Manager (not the Cust. Svc. person, the actual manager of the service department) calling to thank me personally for giving them a glowing review on my service visit when they took care of me so well. I was really impressed that he took the time to tell me that he not only appreciated my business, but also appreciated my positive words when I had a chance to speak up about my visit.

I don't understand why this only happens to me! The replaced mirror is starting to wiggle again. Granted, it's now nearly 100,000 miles and 9 years later, but still odd and a little frustrating.
