TEIN Hood dampers

from my experience---limited-----with my own install, it's the mounting brackets that are necc to make to mod work. the supports themselves can be had at any number of auto parts stores. i called the nrg co who sells the kit and they said that they offer the components seperately.....so you could buy the brackets from them and then get the support of your choice locally..........

I have the NRG kit that was sold on the group buy. I also put a set of Teins on my brothers STI. The STI/WRX ones should fit. The only difference is that you have to drill two holes and tap them on the LGT where as on the STI the ball stud replaces one of the factory fender bolts.

PM me an offer!

too late I oredered the NRG from papaerchasin @ Nabisco

Bumping this thread with a question.

Like MarcusDubya77 has probably done by now I was going to order the same product from the same guy.

In my research on this topic it looks to me that if you installed the NRG dampers in the same manner as the WRX ones get installed it would possibly work.

Look at the black bracket that attaches itself to the hood support. Keep note of it's orientation:

Now look at how these are installed on the WRX:

Notice that the bracket is actually flipped and that the joint bolt takes the place of the bolt that holds the fender to the chassis.

I just went out and looked at my car and can possibly see this method of installation working. It would be better if I had the product in hand to test fit this orientation but now that brings me to my question:

Has anyone tried installing these in the WRX orientation on our cars??

Maybe there's something about our cars that doesn't let you do this and if someone has already tried please speak up. Otherwise if it works you could just buy the WRX ones without any complications.

Just another note: the dampers that Paperchasin is selling now come with 100% stainless steel hardware so the rusting issue is taken care of.

Nevermind guys, I talked with Paperchasin:

There is no way to install them without drilling. I was also a part of his R & D team in trying to piece this together as easily as possible as to avoid drilling, but we were unsuccessful. As for my return policy, I will refund you 100%, only if the merchandise was unused and not tampered with.

Check this thread out for info on what I would call gas hood struts:

On a related note, I really, really hate the stock setup for holding the trunk open. It takes up so much usable space. My buddy's Jetta has gas struts for holding the trunk open and I was thinking of doing a conversion. I know it wouldn't get rid of the elbow hinges that attach the trunk to the car, but it would get rid of the "torsion bars" and any other hardware that is used to hold the trunk lid open.

Has anyone encountered anything like this for the Legacy?
