FWIW, my car has this noise very bad under any boost in gears 1-3 when cold. I have an '05 GT 5MT with S-Techs. I absolutely hate the way this sounds, especially when I have passengers in the car because it makes it sound like there are major problems going on back there! :icon_neut I will be in for a group buy or anything if a solution is found because I HATE unwanted noises!!

Whiteline Differential Bushing Kit

The rear differential bushing kit is designed to lock the front of the rear differential support outriggers to where they meet the body. Fitting of the kit will reduce rear-end float, particularly under acceleration, and will help remove the "thump" on hard/quick gear changes.

$30

Kartboy Rear Differential Bushing Kit

The Kartboy differential bushings reduce the compliance of the rear differential, helping to eliminate the "bang" from the rear end on crisp shifts. 6 piece set, black urethane.

$32

Yes... these are for an '05 Legacy GT. So... who's first?

Just because a web site says they're for the Legacy doesn't make it so. Ask Whiteline, Kartboy or SuperPro if they make these for the Legacy. I hope somebody figures out how to get these to work on the Legacy (and they take care of the noise problem) but I couldn't see how to make it happen.

Here's what you'll get...

These are the instructions...

And these are the locations of the rear differential bushings on the Legacy...

I bought the bushing kit early last fall based on the fact that a couple of

vendors did have the part listed as applicable to the Legacy. After

receiving them and actually getting under the car and looking at our rear

diff mounting method I could not see how these bushings would work for

us. I believe the vendors were misinformed. I could not find any

manufacturer that listed a BL/BP Legacy application.

Notice the differential mounting brackets, and the vertical orientation of the

bushings at the ends of the read diff front member in the pictures...

Now notice the way our Legacy's rear diff is mounted. No mounting bracket

and the bushings in the front member are horizontal, not vertical...

I'm not saying there is absolutely no way that these could work on the

Legacy. I'm just trying to keep anybody else from wasting money on them.

If somebody does in deed get these to work it would be great (and

fantastic if they solved the noise problem).

FYI...attached is the official catalog listing of all BL/BP parts from Whiteline,

current as of Jan 3rd, 2007.

I got an idea:

My car is getting a new engine so someone else may have to volunteer.

I will pay $10 to anybody who tries this, if it works or not. If a few others chime in then somebody can try it risk free, cept their time.

Total money needed.................Maybe $180 for parts and install? (don't know for sure)

What do you guys think? Anybody else in?

Who wants to be the trial case? (preferrably somebody that lives in a very cold area so we all know for sure if it works).

The busings labeled as (8) above are the ones I think we need to worry about..... IMHO.

You only have to worry about those bushing if you have an Impreza, because it's the diagram for their rear diff mount.

Here's how the Legacy rear diff mounts to our subframe (bushings shaded in red)...

Again...there are no aftermarket replacements for these bushings available as of yet.

theose kartboy/whiteline bushings will not fit the legacy period. the wrx rear diff mountings are completely different than the legacy. It seems that in order to replace the rear diff bushings for the legacy, the bushings will have to be pressed in and out sorta like the front LCA bushings. TRS is right about there not being anything ont he market for the legacy yet.

Yep. The old ones will def. need pressed out. The new ones, depending on the design, could just slide in.

That should not be a problem for the Front-Rear diff mount, because the part is removable and small. But the Rear-Rear diff mount is the whole rear sub-frame, that could be a problem.

nope' date=' just that they advertise for Legacy fitment, but it's for the WRX.[/quote']The blame really belongs on the few misinformed vendors that list this part as applicable to the Legacy. The current Whiteline catalog (Legacy section attached) shows no fitment for our rear diff bushings.
