Camry named '07 MT Car of the Year - puke!

Recommended Posts

what a frickin joke. the "all new" Camry is named the 2007 Motor Trend Car of the Year. talk about mass-commercial jibberish.

Some rationale for winning as stated by MT Editor-in-Chief Angus MacKenzie, "hot-selling, broad appeal, performance, efficiency and roominess — at a price point most Americans can afford."

Wow. those are impressive figures. a technological marvel.

I know we all feel the 2007 Subaru Legacy GT Spec.B is an absolute SLAM-DUNK better choice then a generic, geriatric car like the Samry. But it seems like MT makes their decision based on consumer volume sales rather then engineering, dynamics, true performance, safety (LGT Spec.B just picked by Insur. Institute), styling and innovation.

MT selection process: Top seller = Car of the Year

The Hybrid Camry I will give props to. My friend has a hybrid with 200 crank hp and I must tell you that she was able keep up with me going 80-90 mph on the interstate. I mean not to say she was on my tail, but her car wasn't struggling by any means. But yeh "best car of the year" I don't agree with.

Renault Alliance??????????

Thats not even funny.

I'm addicted to the game show network and i love some of the 80s game shows where somebody wins a car and you're like... oh man poor bastard.. for example somebody won an Alliance Convertable

They said .. "Renault, European style, built in America" And with american build quality in the 80s.. oh brother!

'93 Ford Probe GT

Hey, I owned that car! And it was damned cool. Looked like a car from the future compared to the Mazda equivalent (MX-6 it was called I think).

Honest to God, this was the first time I found out that a car alone can pickup chicks. San Diego cruising in Pacific Beach. Two gorgeous gals in bikinis notice the car (surely not me) so I slow down and roll down the window. "Wanna ride?" I ask like a stalker. Sure as shit, they both jump in and we drive around for maybe 10 minutes waving at people. silly but true.

I'll pretend I didn't just read that ^^^^^^^^^

Crusin along at 80-90 mph is one thing. Cruisin up PAST 90 mph with vigor is quite another thing.

I will repeat myself. I was cruising. I wasn't racing. If I were racing, I would have spanked the Camry undoubtedly. All I was trying to convey was that the Camry isn't slow "for a hybrid".

I suppose my idea of cruising doesn't coincide with yours.

Counterpoint:

Ok fine the Camry dosen't have the ultimate performance numbers but anytime you can have a 3.5L V6 with 268hp and 22/31 mpg with a six speed auto its still pretty nice. I'm pretty sure that it would take a stock 5eat Gt from a roll anywhere. And it dosen't have bumper bloat.
