ctown
Useful thread, regardless. I used a 3/4 inch socket, 12 point socket. Hammered the crap out of it to get it on the wheel lock, no problems removing the wheel lock.
mr_edly
Useful thread, regardless. I used a 3/4 inch socket, 12 point socket. Hammered the crap out of it to get it on the wheel lock, no problems removing the wheel lock. This just worked well for me, too. It looks to me like the socket is still good, and when I retrieve the key, the locking nut is probably reusable (maybe some minor grinding of socket marks, maybe not even that. Thanks for the thread with working answers.
Ovcoursitsilver
An old thread but interesting. This probably happens to a lot of us at some time. There are special sockets made with flutes that cut into the wheel lock when turning in the counterclockwise direction, gripping the lock so it can be loosened. Search Amazon or eBay for "wheel lock removal tool" or "bolt removal tool". Anyone intent on stealing your expensive wheels can buy them too. outahere
...he said "No Problem", fashioned a protective sleeve out of cardboard and remove the wheel lock with no damage to the lug or wheel. Says he does the same procedure, all day, every day... John After putting cardboard on the lock, what tool did he use?
