Police Car Burnouts

Recommended Posts

Some will......

2 things give it away though

1. Those wheels are for the V6 models only

2. Take a look how long it takes to actually break the rear tires loose....a 5.7l Hemi has just over 370ftlb's.....those tires would vaporize quickly!!

FWIW, the police Charger with a hemi does use 18 inch steel wheels with plastic covers - including the fullsize spare. They also get a column-mounted shifter where the civilian version has it in the console. Dodge hasn't figured out that you don't put cloth seats in the back of a cop car; Ford uses cloth buckets in front and vinyl in the back for a reason.

My Grand Marquis had no problem lighting up its 235-width Bridgestone RE750s. If Ford wants to compete in this category, all they have to do is use the 300hp 3-valve version of the 4.6 mated to their 5spd auto. They already offer the car on OEM 17s so that wouldn't be a problem.

Also, a Hemi charger police car sells for almost $10k over a Crown Vic so not many agencies will be spending the difference. How many agencies want to buy 18 inch tires for their fleet?

Those are cast wheels though.....not plastic

As far as the Grand Marquis you are totally correct, to bad they no longer offer that setup in the car:(

Ford should have worked out something nationwide on "Police package" Crown Vics & Marquis......all would basically have the same setup as the now defunct Marauder.

It would cost no more than another 2k for a fleet application.

Nah, I'm talking about their newer engine - the same as the latest Mustang GT. Their reasoning that every car didn't get the 4.6 4-valve DOHC (Marauder) setup was the cost and higher powerband.

Now that the 3-valve SOHC engine makes 300hp and is their standard-issue V8, there's no reason for them to keep making the weak 235hp 2-valve version. Cost is virtually identical. They're also holding out on the tranny, keeping the 5spd auto only in the Mustang and Explorer.

Check out this car:

Those look like alloys but are actually 18 inch wheel covers, at least according to the window sticker.
