KartRacerBoy
As a few of you may already know, I heroicly hurled the front of my LGT into the back of a flat bed truck a couple of weeks ago and did about $4500 worth of damage. I managed to damage the a/c compressor or condensor according to my body shop rep and they've had a bear of a time getting the right one. My build date is 10/04 for my 2005 LGT wagon and the new Subie parts system requires you to provide the VIN when you order the part under the theory that with the info included in the VIN, they can accurately provide the right part. Hah! Subaru has provided 2 different parts so far, one which bolted in but didn't mate up with the ac hardlines and another that wouldn't even bolt in. I once tried getting a price on Spec B Bilsteins from two dealerships and the parts guys at neither place could find a listing for the parts. So is the system created by morons? Is it run by morons? Or both? The bottom line is that my car has had everything else done for the past week except for the ac and my body shop guy says he won't get the third part until Sept 12 and we'll just have to see if they get the right part then. How hard can this be on a car that's only two years old? Sheesh.

jagcars26
Just depends on the dealer and who is working the parts counter at the time you come in or call. Plus, good help(like Will) is hard to find, ask any business owner.
Beanboy
Don't wanna thread jack, but Opie, have you done anymore part comparisions between turbo motors lately? Methinks folks are finally getting the idea that internals are the same... -B http://www.standardshift.com
KartRacerBoy
Yes, I'm sure it depends on the people behind the counter, but it seems rather ironic Subaru would set up a system to ensure they get the right parts by using VINs and it misses so badly. The bodyshop guy is a Subie fan and said it happened before with another Subie they worked on (last model Legacy). He got 4 different ac compressor/condensers b4 he got the right one. I'll PM the VIN. Opie, I'm no car mech so I'm not sure if the part is a compressor or condensor, but it's underhood with hardline attachments. It was hit by the radiator or hood when they got pushed back in the crash.
PGT
It took me perusing the parts catalog behind the counter at my local dealer to finally get the correct lower shifter bushing/collar thingy (technical term...bear with me). The parts guy gave up after two failed attempts. To asnwer your Q, I'd say it's the operator being the issue, but probably some blame rests with SOA....the exploded pics they use look like bad scans of a FAX'ed copy of the of a bad scan of the vacation pix. Methinks folks are finally getting the idea that internals are the same... I hope they've finally figured it out! Opie, I'm no car mech so I'm not sure if the part is a compressor or condensor, but it's underhood with hardline attachments. It was hit by the radiator or hood when they got pushed back in the crash. The condensor is in front of the radiator (looks alot like the radiator) and has hardline attachements that go the the compressor, but the compressor is attached to the top left (drivers side) of the engine. If it was a front end hit it's more than likely that the condensor is what they need. All 2.5L Turbo Legacy's and Outbacks use the same condensor, P/N: 73210AG01A Also all 2.5L Turbo Legacy's and Outbacks use the same compressor, P/N 73111AG000 Sounds like they may have ordered parts for a non-turbo or a 6 cylinder... Rommel
I ordered a trunk for a Legacy sedan and they want a VIN #. I told the dealership the year and they still want a VIN number so they can give me the right part. How may types of sedan trunks does a 2005 legacy has. PGT
Sounds like they may have ordered parts for a non-turbo or a 6 cylinder... I went in to buy UP gaskets and the guy brought out H6 manifold gaskets. Umm....try looking up the right car jerky (and when I say the gasket on the far end of the manifold, that doesn't mean the engine block).

KartRacerBoy
Ha! It IS the little things in life that make me happy. I received a Subaru owner's satisfaction survey in the mail and promptly replied. Generally, I gave SOA average to good marks except for in the comments section. There, I briefly summarized my parts ordering experience for the a/c parts and then posed the question "Is your parts system designed and operated by monkeys? If so, please hire a higher form of primate." God, I break myself up. I now return you to your regularly scheduled potty break. PS - No disrespect Opie. I appreciate the offer of help. I'm just on a multiday rant. That timeof the month.
JuxtaGT
Hey, I hear monkeys do a pretty good job. It's those jack asses that are tough to train.
