PacCoastFwy923
I see references to Subaru blindly reflashing ECUs for customers with P0457 trouble codes, but what about vice-versa? Can a reflash somehow result in a P0457 trouble code? (EEC leak / Fuel Cap) I've got a story to tell, but I need a couple days to check some facts first! Thanks. PacCoastFwy923
Another question: Roughly how many miles and/or minutes does it take for a CEL to pop up for a loose fuel cap? Thanks again!
schwinn
My P0457 (or at least that's what I think it was) came on when I had the car on ramps while doing an oil change. The fuel tank was full (<3 miles before) and it came on within a few seconds of starting the car. Scared the crap out of me... but went away when I pulled the car off the ramps, and then restarted it.

PacCoastFwy923
It came up in a google search -- perhaps on NASIOC. The post referenced a Subaru TSB (if I recall correctly) from the New Jersey region which listed three error codes which should result in an automatic reflash; P0457 was one of them. The gist of the thread was along the lines of, "If you want a free reflash/update, unscrew your fuel cap."

The post referenced a Subaru TSB (if I recall correctly) from the New Jersey region which listed three error codes which should result in an automatic reflash; P0457 was one of them. That was an email from SNE to its dealers in 2001 about the availability of an SOA reflash for the 2002 WRX which fixed a spurious P0457 problem. Zero applicability to your car. You've got a "gross" evaporative emissions leak. Your gas cap might be cross-threaded or defective, a hose might be loose, or a fuel tank gasket is crimped.
