OK I will admit it, I am getting a bit lazy, but I also do not want to screw anything up. Can some one post a step-by-step and then we can all "bless" it as the correct way to do an HID install on an 07?

cheers.

PS: Pics and Diagrams welcome ;)

True I suppose however having to cut factory wire to disable something is really stupid on Subaru's part, especially since it was just a damn plug on the '05's/'06's.

DRL's in the real world are not supposed to be turned on/off selectively, and this is why insurance companies give you a discount when you own a car with this feature.

What Subaru did different on the 07's is that they added the low beams to the mix, along with a DRL light on the dash to keep those people aware that they are running only DRL's when it gets dark, and to remember to turn on their headlights. Subaru is just catering to the lowest common denominator, and for that changes need to be made. I believe the percentage of people that are not car enthusiasts that turn off their DRL's is miniscule.

It is not like they took off any feature, and now you can't access it.

Besides, you have an '05 so there is really nothing for you to worry about. :p

I will see if I can take pics. I took some cell phone pics, but they came out horrible.

"I believe the percentage of people that are not car enthusiasts that turn off their DRL's is miniscule."

What do you mean by that? Do you mean cut the wire and drive with them off OR can you actually drive with DRLs turned off (stock from the dealer - no cutting)?

I think in Canada the DRLs stay on until the handbrake is on AND stalk knob turned off.

What I mean the amount of people that mod it so that the DRL's are off being by cutting the wires or unplugging it.

We are a small ercentage of the Subaru userbase, so most people drive their cars stock. Most DRL's systems are made so that they are not driver controlled, but fully automated.

Instead of cutting the infamous brown wire and leaving it off, I installed a simple black rocker switch inside the covered panel for the fuse box.

I like having the DRLs - but sometimes, I need to go through a security checkpoint where I have to turn the lights off as to not blind the sentry. Up until now, I had to pull up the parking brake in order to kill the DRLs.

Hooray for the switch.

where exactly is this plug?? is it under the steering wheel shroud or all the way under the column by the pedals. ifound a white plug under the shroud with a brown and black/blue wire. snipped both of them and the DRL is still on....what can the problem be?

After reading thru several threads, I decided to take a shot on the DRL lights on my new 07 OBXT. I started with removing blue and black wire in the connector and that took care of mine. It disabled the headlamps, parking , and the indicator on the dash. Not sure what the Brown wire does but i don't see a need to remove it . Mike

Just did this today, took about 10 minutes. First, unhook the white connector from the DRL module.

On the back side(flat end) there are two indents on the outside. Put a screwdriver in the indent and pop up the tab that goes all the way across the connector. Before:

After:

Remove the electrical tape that's closest to the connector so you can move the wires around. Now it takes a little effort. Push the blue with black stripe wire forward into the connector(only goes a little bit) then put a small flat screwdriver into the end of the hole below the metal connector. Push the screwdriver towards the metal connector and the wire should just pull out. Tape it up and you're done.

If you don't push the wire forward into the connector, the wire won't unlatch from the connector and you'll just waste your time.
