Alex25
Does anybody used carbon clutch instead of stock one? I have found carbon clutches from Carbonetic - http://www.carbonetic.net/home/ - and my local Carbonetic dealer said me that any one-plate carbon clutch for subaru 5MT will fit, but the price is 1400 $ . Compare it with ~700 $ for PRS clutch kit. Does the carbon clutch twice better that heavy duty organic one:icon_conf ?
Th3Franz
You might want to ask him about how long that clutch will last. Certain clutches with different materials are designed to not slip as much, and if they are slipped for daily driving, some of these will wear out quite quickly. -Franz The end of a Legacy http://www.youtube.com/th3franz
Xenonk
carbon clutches will need some warming up (slipping) for them to work properly for them to actually grip. Once they warm up, they will grab like crazy. Keefe
Alex25
I know that carbon clutch need warm up before hard launches. Does it need warm up every time I start driving my car? I also know that the clutch have breake in distance about 2000 miles.
Xenonk
it probably does need some warm up along the way, or you may get some clutch chatter.. what kind of carbon clutch were you looking to get?? Keefe
Alex25
I'm looking at single carbon clutch for 5MT - http://www.carbonetic.net/match/others_subaru.html. I did't decide yet which pressure plate to choose - 1300 or 1600 kg. How do you think which plate will be better?
Xenonk
the harder the pressure plate, the stiffer the plate and the more clamping force you get. Are you making that much power right now? Keefe
whitetiger
Im running a carbon metallic disk now. it does chater some but man does it hold.
stou
I had some carbon/ceramic clutch on my turbo Mazda a couple of years ago. This clutch can't never slip. It was like ON/OFF, impossible to make it slip. It also chater a lot ;-)
Alex25
My car has stock 280 hp crank now. Now I just collect any information about different type of clutches, because it is one of the weakest point in case of biger (that stock) power and hard launches. I am going to make some tuning this year and I am planning to get about ~370hp crank.
Xenonk
just dont forget as you keep upgrading the clutch, the next thing to take in the beating would be either the tranny, diffs, or axles, this really makes a huge difference later when you run stickier tires. Alex25
How about Clutchnet clutch kits (www.clutchnet.com)? Is it possible to use the kits on Legacy GT (BL/BP)? Does a twin-plate clutch have less stiffness than one-plate clutch? If yes, why? And I don't see any twin-plate clutch with organic discs only with ceramic or carbon ones. Why? jsalicru
Its as simple as this... carbon clutch = racing clutch. nuff said. "some say, his arms are made of coiled adamantium fibers. And that he tops his cereal with nuts and bolts. All we know is, he's called the Jose."

Why? twin plates allow some slack between the plates to react to the grab... it's like a chain reaction. the stiffness is truely based on your pressure plates. it's pointless to run a twin plate that's organic, it's not going to hold anymore power either.. it's all a matter of friction properties.
