Xenonk
I decided to take some pics of the HRE's with a better camera and post up these 'scary pics'... too bad these were staggered and that my car doesn't have the power to push these 18"x10" blings. Xenonk
Keefe, is this what they mean when they say if it ain't rubbin', it ain't racin'? oh, you can still rub with stock wheels and such.. there's plenty of instances where you "trade paint". KartRacerBoy
Not as much tradin' paint (between tire and fender) as when you run those wheels! Is your lgt daily driver? If so, do you get a lot of attention from the police (I'd think!)? Do you race, Keefe, or mainly autox and HPDE/Time trials? Give me your resume, man! Give me your resume, man! well, the actual term "if it ain't rubbin', it ain't racing" came from a lot of people that trade paint along the way, including some bump drafting. Because when you go something like 4-wide into a turn and only 3 come out, you'll see a lot stuff like that goes on.. here's a clip from the UK Honda Challenge: http://www.dpccars.com/car-movies/05-06-06pageHondatypeRaggressiverace.htm and some SpecE30 action just recently this year: [ame=http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=659544973784441871&hl=en]Spec E30 race at summit point[/ame] Yes, the LGT and the 2.5RS and my E30 (for now) are all daily drivers. Around here (and even when I venture into other states), cops could care less about me as there's MUCH more other ricers and idiots that they can catch that do stupid stuff on the road. I just drive normally and obey the laws. I do get the occasional "nice car" from the cops in the next lane over and them asking me "how fast is it?" and I just tell them it's a street-legal classed car that is for high performance driving practice and autox. As for the resume, I'll just PM you that. Keefe
KartRacerBoy
Keefe, one of my favorite racetrack memories is going to Watkins Glen in 1985with a cute blonde girl (one of my former students when I was a grad student and teaching assistant -- ah, the benefits of learning) and pulling into my chosen spot for camping at the end of the main straight. There was no NASCAR chicane then, just the big downhill sweeper at the end of the main straight, a mother fast turn requiring some brains, alot of balls. There was a VW Rabbit series race going on and three Rabbits entered the turn side-by-side. The middle car made the turn, the outside car hit the outside rail and inside car hit the inside rail. I told my girlfriend, "lord, I love amateur racing. More balls than brains." THAT was rubbin' and racing.

KartRacerBoy
Yup. Gorgeous area, the Finger Lakes region, and a gorgeous track. I went for the IMSA GTP race. No chicane at the end of the main straight back then and watching the 962s (I miss you Al Holbert) take the diving turn and down the hill into the boot section was da balls. GREAT TRACK. groff
o yea, that series of turns can be dangerous if you don't know what you're doing, people have died there before, esp in the boot. (which is where my dad and i always camped out at). i went in a ride around lap one time with a buddy of my dads, he had a 67 shelby mustang (i think...) and i'll tell you, the view from the track compared to the view from any spectator point is much much different, especially though that series into the boot, you just don't realize it because you can't really see the whole thing from any one spot. and damn i didn't realize i dug this thread up from the grave, i was looking up some other stuff earlier for some newbs post and ran across this, looks like i'm the newb now
robinlsb
Keefe, is this what they mean when they say if it ain't rubbin', it ain't racin'? We don't do that in Formula cars. KartRacerBoy
We did it in karts all the time. My new graphics each year on the sidepods had black donuts by turn 2 of the first heat of the year. Kart racing at the club level is dangerous. But I never flipped in 5 years of trying!
