Noob seeks advice

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I just bought an 05 LGT last week, but I'm a novice when it comes to mods, so I'm looking for a little advice. I wanna start slowly, since my wife is already pissed that I traded in her 03 Forester, so I was thinking of doing a cold air intake and boost gauge pack. My question is, how do the SPT products stack up against other manufacturers like K+N? Once again, please excuse my ignorance...any advice would be greatly appreciated.

if you search, there is an overwhelming amount of info on mods for the car. it just depends on what you want and what your budget is.

it seems that the common first mods are suspension, wheels, tires, tint, AP, UP, DP, TBE.. again there is alot out there. AP= accessport. A ECU reflasher that changes fuel curves/maps timing and many other things that impove the performance of totally stock cars. its the ultimate plug and play mod that has good adds in performance. it also has stages, making it a good choice because it is friendly to future mods. Like a DP= down pipe increases exhaust flow and a UP= uppipe, decreases restrictions in the air charge from the turbo. And TBE= turbo back exhuast.

the idea of aftermarket intakes and blowoff valves raise alot of negative and positive opinions on this site due to lean conditions they cause within the motor.

But overall, all of these mods are "safe" for the car and are good choices for a daily driver. it just up to you because there are tons of compaines providing these parts with cheaper prices and high prices.

Thanks for the info guys....I'm a total noob when it comes to this stuff. I know this will sound like a stupid question but...the COBB Accessport, is that the same thing as getting a performance chip? Sorry for my ignorance, try not to laugh too hard! :)

Tom, it isn't really like getting a chip, it is far more dynamic. Best advice: logg on to www.cobbtuning.com and go from there. Check out other posts on some of the tuners on this forum for what other tweaks and maps they make to work with the access port. Also, DON'T get the SPT intake. Read some of the posts re; the SPT and you'll see what I mean. Start slowly(like you said) and do things in stages. Oh and welcome to the forum.

Stage2.5376, TDC ProTune,blah blah blahhhh and....Alky/H20 injection :icon_mrgr
