godwhomismike
I finally got my SPT Intake installed today. Fairly easy and quick install - there were few small bumps - basically just the coating used to coat the pipe made it hard to put the bolts in at first - but then they went in fine. The SPT frees up a lot of space in the engine compartment. ok driving impressions. It's a little hard to say if it felt any faster because it was in the mid-80's, sunny, and very humid outside. But, what's cool is the sound it makes. I could see it now - my mpg is gonna go down more . You can really really hear that thing spool up. You hear it sucking, and that turbo whistle spooling sound, blowing off, and wastegate sounds. The exhaust is just as quiet as before - this makes your turbo loud - you hear everything the turbo is doing. Just what I wanted - I like it. The quality and fitment were perfect. No issues with missing parts for bad fitments - everything was 100% perfect. Some people said it's a little louder if you have the heat shield off - I didn't feel like doing the job twice - one time and done right. I installed the heatsheild before the intake went in. It looks very good under the hood. I am very very pleased with it. I strongly recommend this mod for those who want to hear their turbo. For those of you that like it quiet - this mod is definitely 100% not for you. I love it and look forward to a nice cool crisp evening.
Pugsly
My impressions were about the same. I love the way it unclutters the engine bay. I don't mind the sound, but it drives my wife crazy. She's already asked twice to take it out.
jerseyglock
Did you have problem putting hood prop back into its clip on top of the radiator? I had to trim or cut off portion of heatshield..
Scotty
You did something wrong if you had to cut the heat shield.
godwhomismike
everything fit perfectly 100% - very well done. When I get on it, I feel like I am launching a jet and not a car. Also, there is a deeper exhaust sound but the turbo is very loud - very high pitched sound like a jet. .

My MPG actually went up 2mpg by about my 3 tank of gas. Would get 320-340 per tank with intake; 260 with out STGII:( If you can afford College, you probably don't need to go. godwhomismike
my friend wanted to hear it from outside - so he stood in front of his house and I did a drive by and he said it was really loud. He was like sounded awesome. This afternoon, I drove past two cops at around 20 mph and it was loud and they looked at me with some wierd perplexed look like wtf was that. It was all turbo and no exhaust sound.

Pugsly
It's been about a month now and my milage is about the same, 18-19mpg. I was heavy on the pedal when I first installed the intake, but now I'm mellowing out a bit. Here is a pic of the headshield and the intake installed, I can't see where it would interfere with the hood prop.
jerseyglock
Unless they send they send me WRX's heatshield.. I'll take few pics and post them.

godwhomismike
Unless they send they send me WRX's heatshield.. I'll take few pics and post them. I think I kow what you did - the manual calls for putting the rubber bushing in first. Actually, the heatsheild has to go in before the brushing or it will not sit right. Scotty
No it doesn't. Step 6: Place the intake bushing thru the hole in the intake shield and thread into frame rail.
godwhomismike
Step one of the heatshield instructions said do steps 1-12 on the intake instructions and I think step 11 was install the bushing

wrx034me
for those of you that remember when i made my own heatshield for the intake, i made a seperate piece to shield the tube itself from the radiant heat i hope this pic doesnt turn out too small to see it heatshield for filter area (2 sheets of .060 alum with a sheet of thermotec sandwiched in) heatshield for tube itself is .032 SS with that alum coated thermotec self adhesive after a long drive i can now pull over and hold my hand on the tube and not get burnt http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j292/yota924x4/DSC_1931.jpg
Scotty
That's probably a screw up when they released the installation doc. The heatshield installation doc was released almost a month before the intake.
godwhomismike
First time I drove it in a while where the temps were in the low 60's. She felt like a complete animal, all while making all sorts of noises. Could be just because it was much cooler than it has been in a few months - I think the coolest temps I took it out in since May or June was like 77 outside. BTW... my original stock filter was filthy - lots of small leaves and crap on it. Could just be the car is finally getting some air
Scotty
Could be the snorkel actually working, mine has a few leaves also. I took off my SPT intake a few weeks ago. Finally got fed up with the noise sometimes I was okay with it and sometimes it just got annoying. With the stock intake, my mileage has gone down quite a bit. I just got a AVO panel filter and that is nowhere near as loud as the SPT. You can just barely hear the turbo. Ahh peace and quiet.
