2.5i + mods = great mpg!

Recommended Posts

just got back from my socal trip today.

during my entire trip, i averaged 35mpg on the freeway (according to the trip computer) / 32mpg (based off the formula = distance traveled between fills / # of gallons of fuel filled). and 25/23 mpg on the streets of LA and SD.

gotta love fuel economy of the 2.5i.

mods performed: perrin panel filter, e-bay exhaust cans w/ custom piping, intake delete, perrin pulley.

drove 78mph on I-5 w/ CC on for hwy #'s.

i was at autobacs on saturday killing some time before my hotel room was ready @ whittier.

the 2.5i isn't the world's fastest car.. but coming from a corolla, dakota, explorer, and a sentra.... its my all time favorite car. and besides.. if i want the speed... i'll just "borrow" my dad's clk500.

Well those are great numbers...let's see how they stand against mine !

For a 600 mile hike from Chicago to Detroit and back to Chicago thru the world's greatest mess also known as Dan Ryan highway resurfacing project and with glorious amounts of single lane traffic and rough grooved surfaces and miserable stop and go traffic and re-surfacing projects in Michigan (I-94, Michigan State Roads) I think mine doesn't look that bad.

When crusing on the highway - it was 80 mph and for the rest...well let us just say few cars went faster !

cruise speed: 80

average speed 65 (GPS)

travel time 9 h

total distance 600 mile

top speed 98.7

weight: 4 adults + light luggage

mpg: 26.1 (computer)

I think I didn't do that bad ! 26.1 computer translates into 25 mpg real life numbers which is exactly what Subaru claims, at 60 mph ? If I drive 60 mph I get 32mpg any time I want !

Nice...I have never got above 32 highway on mine but that's at 80mph...I am getting ~25.5 in terrible construction traffic stopping and going. May have to try the filter, delete, and pulley

not too bad. for a cleveland-chicago-milwaukee-cleveland (1200miles) i averaged about 34mpg, but i drove thru chicago at rush hour traffic, and the shitty roads. also i went like 4 times to downtown chicago in 2 days. my only mods were the k&n filter

sorry to get off topic, but how is that perrin pulley?? Feel any difference?

i dont feel like the car gained any power. but rather it accelerates faster and responds faster. the only drawback i would have to say is that the car tends to feel a lot more sluggish when trying to accelerate w/ the AC ON. this wasn't an issue before the pulley. but other than that imho its a mod worth the money.

time to hijack my own thread and pose this question to you. when you perform your 30k service. doing it yourself or going to a shop?

Did the perrin panel filter help with power at all??

imo yes it does. i feel it sucking in more air than w/ stock. and besides.... all i gotta do is wash the damn thing if it gets dirty. i wont have to shell out an extra $30-50 for another one to replace later on.

hmm... possibility AT vs. MT play a role? what gas do you use? what oil are you currently using?

and keep in mind that i achieved the 35/32mpg based off the entire 300 mile stretch of I5 from Los Banos, CA to Los Angeles, CA. there was no partial city.. it was solely pure hwy driving. and its mostly flat. that may play a role in the economy as well...

i am taking it to a shop, along with a list of issues the dealer needs to adress.
