Real-world BMW 335i 0-60, 1/4 mile times

Recommended Posts

From LeftLaneNews:

Car magazines are beginning to publish statistics from their in-depth tests of the new twin-turbo BMW 335i coupe. According to Automobile magazine, the four-seater can hit 60 mph in just 5.1 seconds — compared to the current M3's 4.8. Meanwhile, the quarter-mile sprint takes 13.6 seconds, according to the magazine — only slightly slower than the M3's 13.4 second run. 0-100 mph for the 335i takes 12.7 seconds, compared to 11.5 for the M3. Over in Germany, Auto Zeitung is reporting a 0-62 mph time of 5.3 seconds, 0-100 mph time of 11.9 seconds, and a 0-124 mph time of 18.7 seconds for the automatic version of the 335i. Overall, it seems the new six-speed auto performs almost identically to its manual counterpart. However, the 0-100 mph time appears to be significantly faster for the automatic version.

Now, I'm the last person to get excited about 1/4 mile times anyway, but don't those seem a tad slow for a 3.5L Turbo???

not for the weight its hauling around.

Also, the displacement of the motor does matter to a certain extent.

im sure with a little tuning on that twin turbo set-up and you'll be in the 11's, im sure they have to publish those numebrs, so that people will still but the m3

Yeah, in a way 335 is to M3 like Cayman is to 911. The 335 is meant to be a stop gap model to shrink the gap from a 330 to an M3. One thing they definately want to do is steal thunder from the next M3, which should be awesome.

This engine also seems as though it is pretty lightly stressed, and in the hands of some tuning firms and some BMW fans that like to turn up the juice, the 335 may be a better tuning car than the NA M3.

yup my point exactly, you just said it better...time to go back to ENG1A..

im sure a boost controller alone would put it in M3 range... and tuning would just be insane, but i can imgain parts costing a lot more also, hell, i have to think twice about some of the lgt parts available now, and some are just priced rediculously...but hey, im sure if you can afford the 335i to being with and even think about modding it, then, you will have money to support expensive pass times

any comfirmed pricing on the 335i yet?

Like previously said, this BMW is NOT designed to be a rocket. That's the M3's job. I gotta tell you though, a mid-13 is a very nice time for a "standard" 3 series car.

Let's see what the real world price on it is, and I'll tell you whether I would get one or not.

yes, pricing is out... however, those turbos are small... don't expect HUGE power from them.. and these days... especially german cars.. you can't just slap on a boost controller.

so whats the price on it? even tho the turbos are small, im sure they are not maxed out...and i highly doubt that the car is even tuned to capacity, so im sure a boost controllet + a tune = shits loads of fun and power

+1 Bangle maks some ugly cars. WTF were they thinking when they let him be a designer? I think if this design were on Japanese or US cars the critics would be asking for his head. He get big time slack because its BMW. His designs are flat out gag provoking

Scooter The size nof the engine is 3.0 liters not 3.5 liters. Dispite the 335 designation it a 3 liter motor.

Ah... yeah, I think I knew that, actually - just forgot temporarily. :icon_mad: Still, Car&Driver got a 5.1 0-60 time out of the Spec B, didn't they? I'd have expected better from this BMW, but they are probably tuning a little conservatively to start so they can bump it up a little in future model years. I'd like to take one for a test drive, for sure!!

Whats interesting about the C/D results is... its the same speeds they got for their last M3 test :| I can only imagine what the next M3 is going to do :| By the time I get my Legacy power up enough to compete with m3's, the new m3 will come out and whoop me :( on the track ... :)

Uhm, I picked up an '07 new cars issue (can't remember if it was Road and Track, or C&D), but I could have swore it said the M3 was canceled. .

The new C&D (october I think) goes through all car companies and lists their changes to their cars, which cars are unchanged and which cars are "dead." The M3 is dead for 07. There isn't an 07 M3 according to C&D, but all rumors lead to a new M3 for 08 (I think).

Check that... it looks like there will not be an 07 M3, but in 08 its back and with a V8, according to Edmunds.com

Hmm i thought there were rumors about puttinig the 10cyl in it

A guy I work with has ordered the new 335i. He expects delivery in the next 4-5 weeks. So my LGT won't be king of the parking lot much longer :(

I'll see if I can get some pics when he gets it.

Protune that biatch as long as the 335i stays stock you should have an edge.
