subarufan1
are all turbos on subarus silent? on my 06 legacy gt wagon ltd the turbo is not audiable at all as far as i can tell:icon_conf when i usually thinka bout turbos i think about ford f-350s and dodge ram diesels. are the turbo designs different, which makes one louder than the other? bradlgt21
take out your intake silencer and you can here it more. And if you get a accessport you hear it even a little more. Its all the quite intake that is muffling the turbo.
RochNY91TSI
Also, the turbos that you're talking about on trucks are much, much larger. Larger turbos will tend to be louder since their compressor and inducer wheels are larger and move more air
subarufan1
what is an intake silencer? is it benifital to remove it and what are the positives and negitives on removing it? it would be cool to hear the turbo a lot louder as long as its not detrimental to the car
legacychick
check out this thread about removing the intake silencer. http://legacygt.com/forums/walkthroughs-performance-modifications/1955-intake-silencer-removal.html?highlight=intake+silencer
bradlgt21
yeah I haven't noticed any bad effects, The reason you hear the turbo more after you get a accessport is because they turn the boost up and the turbo works harder. I only have my silencer removed and a stage 1 and my turbo whistles at WOT.
Th3Franz
If you get an aftermarket downpipe, panel air filter, and remove the intake silencer, you can hear the turbo much more. I love it. -Franz The end of a Legacy http://www.youtube.com/th3franz
Vimy101
If you drive through a tunnel or viaduct the turbo can be distinctly heard. When I pulled my first "Blues Brothers" on lower Wacker was the first heard mine. Sweet.
