stock size is 215/45/17

yes you can run 225/45/17 on a stock rim. check the specs for the tire you want and you should be within range. know that tires of the same size vary per manufacturer slightly...just like treadwear ratings.

the effect on the spedo is very minimal depending on exact tire diameter (brands vary quite a bit) you should be 2-5% faster than your spedo indicates.

as for mpg i've been getting 28-31mpg highway @ stg2 and then some.

i have 225-45-17 pilot sport a/s on my car, they fit fine.

with about 24k on them they wear well too

How do you like the Pilot Sport A/S? Im considering them when comes time to replace the stockers.

Thanks

the tires were my first mod, as a wrx convert i knew better than keeping the re92's. most people say tires are the #1 thing you can do to change the handling of the car, and i agree albeit @ nearly 200 a pop i dont think i'll be spending thatmuch again for some all seasons.

ps any locals need some re92's with 800 miles on them?

I'm running the 225-45x17 MPS A/S on my LGT Wagon stock wheels, and other than a slight noise increase (kind of hard not to have some increase with these honking tread blocks). They handle amazingly well in dry, wet and snow, and can't even tell that they're wearing with ~8K on the odo.

Would recommend them and may even go with them on my wife's Forester replacement Subaru too as I'm sure the stockers will need replacing after the first year or so.

That said, the RE92 "A" variant are quiet, work well in the dry and wet. Never got to try them out in the snow since I put a metal bar through the side wall on Christmas Eve, just before we were to head up to the snow. So I replaced them with the MPS A/S. Just make sure you check TPs regularly (at least 2x month) because they definitely don't handle well if they're under-inflated even slightly and you'll be good to go for at least a year.

running 225/45-17 Ventus R-S2s.

No problems with speedo (double-checked against GPS and Radar), fuel mileage is more or less the same. Only real difference is lotso tire noise, but this is the tire, not the size.

Grip is very good. Went 225/45 in hopes of less ruined sidewalls due to lovely NJ roads.

225/45 ZIEX ZE512s on stock 17s for my "winter" setup.

Yes, I know they're all-seasons, and yes, I know that they're wider than stock - all help conspiring to perhaps less-than-ideal winter traction. But I'm a self-confessed pussycat in the snow/slippery-stuff, anyway, so this set suits me very well as it's frankly quite excellent at *WET* handling, and God knows that NE-Ohio gets plenty of that in the transition-seasons, too.

38/36 PSI, cold, F/R.

Yes, compared against my 225/40/18 setup for summers, running on 8" wide rims, the 225/45/17 setup on the stockers is somewhat sloppy upon turn-in, but it's nowhere near "bad," either, and for decently spirited street driving, I find that I don't have much to complain about.
