bbeast
How bad is it if you put to much oil in your engine? I checked my oil the other day on a cold engine and the level was just below the L. So I topped it off with a quart of oil. This brought the level up to the notch on the dipstick (which is above the Full line). I checked the maual and it said on a cold engine to be sure to only fill up the oil resevoir to the F and not above. The notch is there to allow for thermal expansion (the Full Line on a hot engine). Hmmm.....
deneb
I don't think it's anything to worry about, you're probaly not even 1/2 quart too full. In my experience, 1/4 qt. took me from midway between the L and F dots to the F dot, but others have said the distance between the L dot and F dot is 1 qt. Either way, you should be OK. And if your LGT is using oil, you'll be back to the F dot in a few hundred to a few thousand miles anyways.
bbeast
Well, it seems my LGT is using about a quart every 1000 miles, but I have to do more testing to verify. I am using AMSOIL synthetic.....
mickeyd2005
I'm pretty sure that's well within the tolerance band. The only time you have to worry is if you have A LOT of extra oil in there... Like 2 quarts extra. If that happens, then it may be possible for the crank to froth up the oil. This could lead to oil starvation. I don't know what the Subaru tolerance is, but I'm fairly sure that modern engines can accommodate at least 1/2 quart extra with no problem. LongHiway
I think you are OK as well but, draining some oil will let you sleep better.
