lucas569
well i found out i can have my cake and eat it too! i found out by total accident that i can switch between white and red for nite time with out doing anything to the gauge, simply just by starting my car a another way! 1st ill let you know how i have it wired and what style i chose cause this may not work for you then again it might (the way i wired it might have something to do with it but i doubt it) i have my prosport boost gauge wired up to the little red light in the cubby, the light has two wires blue (lamps) and yellow with black stripe (ground) so i hooked up the prosport wires = orange conncected to the blue wire (so when i turn my lights on the guage is red) and the gauges ground/black to the yellow/black wire. the ACC i hooked it up to the trip meter (not 100% sure but i think it was yellow with orange stripe) regardless it was an ACC wire i hooked up two of the gauges wires to that same wire, the white and the red. simple enough right? ok by accident i figured out that if you leave your lights on when you go to start the car for some odd reason the gauge stays white! at first i thought my orange wire came loose, then i thought hey that kinda looks cool, a lil bright at night but it still looked cool. so then later on i realized i left my lights on and a lightbulb went off in my head, is there a circuit in the gauge that maybe tell it to stay on like 1st come 1st serve? so i turn the lights on and off and no shit the gauge stayed white! so i turn the lights off, turn the car off, turn it back on like normal gauge is white with drl... turn my lights on and bam theyre red at night! am i making any sense here? imo im excited cause i couldnt decide whether i wanted to keep my guage white during the day and nite or just white during the day, red at night.... now i can do anything i want, want em white at night? just turn the headlights on before i start my car and bang they stay white. want em red at night, just leave your lights off like 99% of us do anyway and the gauge lights up like normal! (white during day red at night IF YOU WIRED it like that) again this can all be the WAY I WIRED it or a circuit in the prosport gauge i dont know, im guessing that cause alot of us mount this gasuge in the cubby you prolly tapped the same wires as i did.... if your prosport gauge is wired like mine (white day, red night) turn your headlights on 1st then start the car bet your gauge will stay white! thanks for reading my crazy story but im excited cause i couldnt decide, now i know i can have any color at night that i want! Abandonhope16
Nice. I was having the same debate of what I want to do in terms of the color. This will be a lot easier than trying to develop some sort of relay to make the colors interchangable. Someone who has it wired differently should test it (mine isnt installed yet). How difficult did you find the install? Do you consider yourself relatively knowledgable when it come to installs?
CasopoliS
lol I figured this out yesterday too. I was so excited and my wife just looked at me like a retard. Is your red/amber slightly orange in color like mine? another trick... if you take 12V off the white wire while the orange wire has power, the red/amber becomes a deep red... more like stock. I think it is because when you will 12v from the white wire... it shuts all the white LED's off. I might use a relay to do this... so when I turn my lights on... it kills power to the white wire. BUT... then the other trick would not work. I will probably just end up wiring a 3-way swtich that tells the gauges what color to be. They will be on all the time regardless of headlights... and I just flip the switch for power.

How difficult did you find the install? Do you consider yourself relatively knowledgable when it come to installs? the install wasnt hard, only thing i had a hard time with was routing the vac hose but i just gave up routing it thru the firewall and slipped it thru that grommet thats on the left side fender... after that i just wired it up to the wires behind the cubby.... the guage itself has 4 wires black= ground white= white light orange = amber light red= ACC in short i wired it to the cubbys red light wires, blue = lamps (orange wire from gauge) yellow/blk = ground (black gauge wire) then the two wires from the gauge (white and red) are wired to the same ACC wire from the trip meter (yellow w/red stripe? cant recall) i used a test lamp and it just had 12v power when i turned the car on.... it was very simple really... as far as the amber looking orange i dont have that dilema, mine looks deeb amber almost matching the oem lights..... PhilT
Is the amber better for driving at night ? I find the white background too bright, ideally I'd like it to dim with the other gauges but that looks easier said than done. lucas569
imo yes, whites not bad to be honest, just a tad brighter than the oem (plus it has a blueish tint to it, not 100% exact match) i have my stock gauges at Ill.6 (full bright) so if you drive with a lower setting youll notice it even more, i like that i can have any color for night that i want. PhilT
Normally at night I turn the illumination right down to minimum, thats when the Prosport gauges seem too bright. At least I can close the cubby when it annoys me too much. Double Award Winning Legacy GT Wagon
Abandonhope16
Its my understanding that additional tubing is needed to make it into the engine bay. What seems to be the standard/average length that people are getting from their local autoparts store?

75sausage
How about tapping into the stock dimmer for power, possible?
derffred
so if i don't wire up the orange wire from the gauge... i won't have any problems right? i just won't get orange?

derffred
is the brightness blinding at night?
derffred
lol, so i just bought the vampire taps at home depot.. hooked up the red and white wires to the green w black stripe (power w key on only), black to ground for the cubby light, and the orange to the purple wire for the cubby light... sooo the gauge is white with the lights off, but when i turn the lights on, the gauge turns orange... how bright is the white on the gauge at night... should i leave it like that? i want it to be white all the time, but i hear people say it's blinding at night, so the orange would be better?
