06 Legacy GT

Im looking into buying an 06 GT. Its black on black, auto and navi. The rough number the salesman said was 30,100. How much can I possibly talk them down? Are the 07's coming out soon? Would a high initial down payment help at all?

If they don't really want to budge on the 30k, I think I'll go Audi instead for just about the same price.

This is my first time buying a new car. So the whole negotiations and what not are very new to me. Just curious as to what others have been able to work out.

Thanks

Shop around. I dont know where you are from, but you can almost always do better than that, especially on an 06 at this point.

Thats really my question. 30 seems a bit high at this point. If the 07s are coming out soon, id imagine that I could at least use that as some sort of leverage. I was thinking of going for about 25....

I've looked around. Pickings are somewhat slim as to getting what I want. Most have the ivory/taupe interior, not what I want. And this is the only black one that I saw. But there is no way i'm going to pay 30 for it.

the lowest you can go should be 28,900 with navigation, that should be invoice price. im getting (if i get it lol) a gt sedan just no navigation for 26,900.

mind you both prices are after the 2000 cash back rebate.

You can purchase a car below invoice. I bought my LGT 3k under invoice. It can be done. Shop around.

Dealer incentives/discounts can drive the price well below invoice. From my experience, the larger dealerships with more competition give better deals.

I got quotes from several different dealers. I would look up their inventory using the dealer locator/inventory browser on subaru.com, and then if they had a LGT configured the way I wanted it, I would get the vin# (from subaru.com) and call or email them for a quote. Kept doing that to several dealers until I got the car I wanted at a good price. I didnt get a NAV in my car so I dont know exactly what that adds, but several people have reported getting a brand new LGT with other options (no NAV) for under 25k. Obviously, you'll save more on an 06 at this point than a 07.

Dont be afraid to drive a little to get the car/price you want. Lets say you drive 300 miles away? That costs you $50-75 in gas, but saves you $3k + interest (assuming an auto loan). Its worth it. I checked pretty much every dealer with the car I wanted in a 200 mile radius. Hope that helps! Good luck!

Nav is a ~$1800 option on a '06 LGT.

I got my '06 LGT 5-spd w/ armrest, homelink, rocker trim and sub for $24.6k. The lowest I have seem on the board is $23.9 with no options.

The published invoice price is not the actual dealer cost. First, there is $1500 customer rebate and a $500 dealer cash from Subaru. Then there is the dealer hold back, which is ~3% of MSRP or about $1000 for LGT. High volume dealers also get discount price for their cars so there is additional profit margin there. Pricing is pretty regional thou, I would go to carsdirect.com and get their price, subtract $500-$1000 and use that as your target price.

I got mine for $23,900 with Homelink, All-weather mats, and Rear Cargo net in July.

Your best tool is to online shop and put dealer's against eachother for your business.

WOW!!!

Awesome deal.

Mine was pretty much the same deal with a spoiler, but for 24,700. For out here in Chicago area though, it seems like I did pretty good still. Good work on the wheeling & dealing!

I got it for 27.

The problem with having dealers compete against each other around here is that nobody has anything that I really wanted. This was the only black one I could find.

Thanks for everybodys help/opinions

You could still have done a lot worse. Glad you got the car! How are you liking it so far? Did you end up with the 06 or the 07?

I just picked it up tonight. Compared to other cars, I think you really get your moneys worth. It drives nice. It lags a little off the line with the auto, but it doesn't take long for it to get going.

I think it's a bit early to say that i'm satisfied with the car. But I don't see why I wouldn't.

Thanks again for everybodys help/opinions.
