chenc544
Apparently COBB is working on an AccessPort for this car. It'll be the first non-Subaru AccessPort. I thought Cobb is working on the AP for Evo... http://legacygt.com/forums/turbo-powertrains-2-0gt/39864-new-accessport-coming-fall.html

tigersan
Well for starters all the comparisons are spec b vs MS6, I think the spec b is very overpriced for what you get so the only comarison that matters to me goes like this. Edmunds "what others are paying pricing" Legacy GT Limited no options $27547 Mazdaspeed 6 similarly equipted $30677 That leaves me $3110 to...... Stage 1.5 -2 $1200 ish Suspension upgrades $1000 Bigger/stickier wheels/tires $1500 minus $600 for selling the stockers. So the legacy already beat the MAzda in acceleration, now its a blow out Breaking and slalom I imagine wuuold be alot closer now, and probably beat the mazda in the slalom. Then you ad subarus rep for reliability, and the fact that the legacy is my personal preference in terms of style and there is absolutely no comparing these 2 vehicles the subie wins running away!!!! johndas
That's the best "comparo" I have seen yet! Plus on the flip side...has anyone seen the condition of the Mazda 6 interior 12-16 months into normal use...I have and I was amazed at how cheap and worn the interior parts and surfaces looked! (and I actually liked the Mazda interior in the showroom) ... J
chenc544
Edmunds "what others are paying pricing" Legacy GT Limited no options $27547 Mazdaspeed 6 similarly equipted $30677 I know when I bought the LGT back in May the Speed6 is about $2-3k more but that's not really true right now. Mazda has 2 rebates for the 6 that totals $3500 starting in Aug. The better way is to use carsdirect. According to carsdirect for my zip code the LGT w/ no options is $26,107 and Mazdaspeed6 GT (with leather & sunroof) is $26,228 (there is a Sport model w/o leather and sunroof for ~$23.5k). We can debate all day about Speed6's AWD system vs the LGT, 6-spd vs 5-spd, HID, 18" vs 17" or traction/stability controls. So the term "similarly equipted" is really up to the individual taste. I know if these were the prices back in May the LGT would have a tougher fight on it's hand for my money.

Zoombaru
I don't think it's fair to compare the a standard USDM Legacy GT to the Mazdaspeed. Because it is not a comparison of equels. When I do make a compariosn it would be with the Spec. B trim. But, once again, I am not going to compare the MS6 to a regular GT again. It's competor is the Spec B. B4 We first drove a limited-edition 2006 Subaru Legacy spec.B in April. It’s essentially a Legacy GT with a navigation system, stiffened suspension, and high-performance tires. SpecB's are fine, but let's not put them that high on the pedestal. -- Zoombaru [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] My LGT on CarDomain (Check it & give a fellow LGT a 5-rating)
AK Wagon
Take it easy with the "Crap American" stuff... keep in mind that the LGTs that we drive were built in Indiana.
SWP-LegacyGT
Assembled and built are two different things. Mattg: Must be your first experience with a subaru and a moonroof... bad combo.... advice... Get a louder stereo system. and to AK Wagon : "Crap American" is the MS6, not our Legacy GT's. Regardless.... all of this is a mute point since the Legacy is indeed a better car (overall) than the MS6 in just about every catogory. And yes... you nay sayers, I've driven one. dutchie3
the ms6 is pretty quick. I watched a video on streetfire.net of a 17 psi ms6 narrowly beating a supercharged 05 mustangGT in the 1/4. the new mustangs are fast let alone with a supercharger. a canadian auto site tested one at 5.5 sec to 60mph...most likley on 93 octane, and after a few clutch drops (hard on awd). not my taste for looks though, and I question the powertrains ability to hold up to the power/torque. I prefer the looks of the legacy...still looking for one in my price range, and color, and tranny, with low miles....hopeful thinking.
ineedboost
I drove both cars, the Legacy 3 time the Speed6 twice. Of all the cars I drove they were my two favorites and on any given day my choice would have come down to which car was my favorite at that moment. Interior wise I prefered the Speed6, it felt a little roomier and I just liked the look of it a little better (styling is subjective). I would have prefered the regular '06 (mate black) dash and console material to the carbon look in the speed. Exterior wise I really liked both cars, I do think the speed6 has more of a different look from the standard 6's which I like. In comparison the SpecB looks almost identical to the stock GT with the exception of the wheels (once again, styling is subjective). As far as the drivetrain I prefer the GT's boxer engine and the Subie AWD system. It's what makes a Subaru a Subaru (damn, that sounds familar). As far as I am concerned the Speed6 is built in Japan by a Japaneese company and the U.S LGT's are built in Indiana by a Japaneese company a fact that means absolutely nothing to me. Bottom line is that I would love to have either of these cars in my driveway. Both, while being similar are great rides in their own way.

Maybe the AWD is a bigger advantage in the 1/8. But then again there are vids of WRX's getting beaten pretty badly by that same mustang. None the less, that 17 psi MS6 is FAST. Filming some video of my friends MS6 & my spec.B this afternoon, I'll try to get them on streetfire tonight. Should be interesting.
Jedi Pimp
I just don't like the big cowl hood on the Mazda. When I sat down in the driver's seat, the hood was obstructing the view out over the hood. Putting the intercooler there ruined the whole lines of the original car. I mean you can't even slap on a front mount and put the low hood back on because the dumb front quarter panels have the bulge in them also. zmarko
Interesting. I've been a mazda fan for 25 years. I've owned an '82 RX7, an '86 RX7, 2 '93 RX7's, and I currently still own an '01 Tribute. In respect to the "current times", I'd say that Mazda's interior quality has gone down dramatically. I'm extremely pleased in the look and feel of my LGT's interior, and think it has a much higher quality than the Speed6. But that's just my opinion. I think the Mazdaspeed 6 is a good looking car, but I'd never buy one.

frank ward
So much for the Mazdaspeed 6. Now, along comes the Mazdaspeed 3. 6 speed, 263 HP, 280 lb torque, 18" wheels, 154 mph top speed, folding rear seat backs, electro-luminescent guages, t.p. monitoring, to name a few of the features. Price? $22,835 for the slightly more spartan Sport, $24550 for the GT. Haven't seen or driven one yet but it sure looks sweet. More details at the Mazda website but nothing about when it'll be available and I'm awaiting a reply on this. Looked at two '07 STI Ltds last week. Very appealing package but, sadly for me (I'm on the shorter side so I need to tilt down the front edge of the seat for comfortable clutching), no power driver's seat. I quite liked the Msd6's performance but not enough to replace my LGT with one. Also, the salesman never said a word about the $2K rebate on the '06 Mspd 6, presumably the store's policy - but why? . I think the Mazdaspeed3 would make a nice back-up car to my '05 LGT. Or even a replacemant, when I'm ready. I sure intend to find out!
DKB_SATX
Depending on how the Speed3 feels in "torque limited" mode (in the first couple of gears you don't get full power to "manage torque steer"), it might be a decent replacement. I really, REALLY like AWD though... after 15 years of FWD the Legacy is a very nice change. Not sure I could put up with that much horsepower fed through the front wheels only. Everything else looks very interesting about the 3... maybe they'll have AWD by the time my LGT Wagon is ready to give up the ghost. On a related topic... I found out yesterday that Mazda has dropped the MT from all of the 6 Wagons. It's a conspiracy. Their wagons are now all V6, all 6AT.
