LittleBlueGT
I will be getting my TBE exhaust shortly (w/ HFC) and my local parts coater (he did my headers) said it would not be a problem to coat the DP, even though it has a cat. He said he would coat the outside like normal, and then use rags to protect the cat while he did the first part of the inside. What do you guys think? Possible? Th3Franz
The rags would hold up to the massive heat ceramic coating entails? Uh.. normally I have heard it doesn't work well to coat any exhaust piece on the inside with a cat in it. -Franz The end of a Legacy http://www.youtube.com/th3franz
bugblatterbeast
I think it is possible. The rags wouldn't have to take the full curing temperature. You can get a partial cure at lower temperature, remove the rags then crank the heat up.

wukindada
Not worth the chance in my opinion.... I'd just get the outside coated, then wrap it.... Hmmmmmm.....thats exactly what I'm doing:) Toyota 6EATS .........SUCK!!!!!!
legacy_y_tu
Why don't you do what I'm planning on doing. 1. Cut the HFC off. 2. Get coated 3. Weld HFC back on 4. Enjoy

LittleBlueGT
Moved to pipes Why coat it Didn't even notice their was another section. Only the top part of the DP can benefit from coating, it helps keep engine bay temps cooler, adn results in less heat going to the TMIC. rc0032
Only the top part of the DP can benefit from coating Then why not just coat the top part and not the whole pipe. Issue solved.
wukindada
Really only the top half need's to be coated..... Toyota 6EATS .........SUCK!!!!!!
LittleBlueGT
Then why not just coat the top part and not the whole pipe. Issue solved. The piece has to put in an oven to bake it, can't really put in just half of a pipe. FWIW I will also be getting the heat-shield coated to further help. Steiner
Is inside coating as important after the turbo as it is before the turbo for performance? I'd think not since I thought the exhaust velocity was most important getting to the turbo but every little bit probably helps. For underhood heat control, I think everything helps. My plan is getting my catted dp outside coated, equal-length headers/up inside/outside coated, turbo heatshield coated, and give the turbo the Crucial port/polish/coat/dissipant treatment. My car puts off a magnificent amount of heat at a standstill. Just the other day I parked it after a drive and an hour later was still able to toss a couple of salmon fillets on the intercooler for dinner. Worked great. The fish doesn't flake off and fall down between the fins as easy as on the grill when you flip it. Experience is something you don't get until right after you needed it.
