Prod
(Of course I'm keeping the Legacy!) 1988 RX-7 GTU Blown motor, cut springs. $100. I should have pics tomorrow or Thursday. Unfortunately I won't be able to get it trailered to my house until the first week of July. Then I have just over a week to get it running before I leave for the Navy for 2.5 weeks. If I don't get it running then, I'll have it running by early August. I haven't decided if I want this car to be streetable or track only. Track only would be cheaper becuase no insurance/registration/emissions/blah fees. But I'd also have to install a tow hitch on the LGT. The LGT is rated to tow 2700lbs. The car weighs that much dry, so I'll have to do a fair bit of weight reduction.

rao
WIll the NOS button be hidden under the passenger seat? No button, it will be on all of the time The second generation cars handle extremely well; get rid of those cut springs, get the rear steering eliminator bushings and some decent tires and you will run circles around a lot of people. Also, I amconsidering goinig full FnF and getting a 240sx and putting a LS1 into that Rob IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR CAR YOU SHOULD NEVER DRIVE IT

Tommyh
My vote? V8 powered track monster! The Chevy 350 V8 is fairly ubiquitous and inexpencive. Granny's SpeedShop is one company that I can think of off the top of my head for conversion kits A bunch of GrassRoots Motorsports $200(X) Challengers have used their kits to GREAT effect! In otherwords, you could do this entire project for MUCH less than $2000 bucks. Martin Luther - "Who loves not women, wine and song remains a fool his whole life long." Prod
Since when could the LGT tow 2700lbs? Since Subaru offered the tow package for the wagon. I know everyone sees 2nd gen RX-7 and immediately thinks LS1/other V8 swap, but that's not why I bought the car. I love the rotary engine. I also like 2700 lbs and 50/50 weight distribution. RX-7s are wonderful cars for the corners, and that's what I'm going to use mine for. If I wanted to do drag racing, I'd look into a V8 swap. But I'm in it for the autocrossing and track days to come. Also I'm trying to do this for less than $1k.

You said you wanted to do it for very little money. I like Mazda's rotary motors as well, but is this one running? How much would either a good rebuild, or a new engine cost? Especially compaired to the cost of a boneyard V8. Yes it will destroy the RX-7's inherent 50/50 goodness, yes it will add a bunch of weight, but it will have a reliable motor that parts can be found everywhere, and it will still have the RX-7's amazing chassis. The GrassRoots Motorsports yearly challenge has proven the potency of this combination on the Autocross course, and yes the dragstrip as well.
