Hit a pothole - should I worry?

Recommended Posts

Driving home tonight I hit a pot hole. It was a hard hit. I drove the rest of the way and everything seemed fine. I parked it in the middle of the street under the street light and the surface was flat. I felt around the front and back sidewalls and felt nothing. Driving on the roads here is like Auto-X since there are so many potholes on our crap roads. I try to be as careful as possible, but this one I didn't see until it was too late :(

Would you be concerned?

If you don't feel or notice a problem while driving then you are probably ok. It is possible to bend a rim without flattening the tire, but you pretty much notice right off the bat when that happens. If you start to feel wild vibrations then I would head to a wheel shop and have them check the wheel and make sure nothing else got broke.

Yup.......

Watch for pull to the left right as RidgeRacer said - might need an alignment

Watch for new Vibration while driving at high speeds which could indicate a slightly bent rim Like OC said...

ummmmm........pothole.......:D

If your tire isn't flat by this AM, and everything, as you said, seemed fine while driving last night post-pothole, you should be in-the-clear. :)

Do you have stock tires?

I did the same thing recently. I think I'm going to keep a close eye on it and hopefully it won't develop a bubble or anything stupid. Let's see how long I can keep these crappy stock tires & wheels around, before I spend all my tax refund on a new set. hehe

My rim got a nasty scuff on it

But hey, this'll be the perfect opportunity to paint/powdercoat those stockers! :)

Nope, I got rid of the stock tires. I got a set of Toyo Proxes4 last summer and really love these tires.

I felt the tire carefully lastnight and felt no bulges. Hopefully none form.

I'm sad about the scuffed rim. :(

I've hit a couple of pot holes due to this narrow road that if i swerve to miss it...i could hit a car on the other side...

Theres some vibration in the wheel (actually i don't know...it could be thats its really windy outside) and i'm getting new tires from discount tires. You think they would tell me something is wrong with my rim?
