kh0432
Finally sold my old 91 Legacy with 184000 miles on it and bought a 99 Legacy Outback. I took the new car on it's first long trip and noticed something that the old Subie never did. When going down a steep grade at 60 mph, and I hit the brake, the automatic transmission downshifts to 3rd and stays there even if I speed up. Once I slow down and get on level ground, it shifts normally. It did it 3 times on this trip. Is this normal for a 99? Thanks, Keith
matt
Hopefully it's normal - downshifting to maintain speed on a descent is a good thing! Not many automatics did that for you in '99. Whenever you're driving one that doesn't it's much better to force it to downshift yourself (put it in "3" or "2" or whatever's appropriate for the speed you want) than to ride your brakes.
