anyone tested both engines? Is there any notable difference in driving?

Drove a loaner last week. I couldn't tell a difference. Seven horse power is only a 4% gain, any difference would be subtle at best.

It is more than just the 7 peak hp. I drove a 05 2.5i, and then my dads 06 2.5i OB. The new engine has a broader powerband that is quite noticeable. AVCS really helps out a lot for the NA engine...

It doesn't have AVCS. It only has VVT.

I think idle fuel economy and smoothness would be a bit better on the 06.

I'd say it's more a placebo effect. Only way to test is have someone swap or don't swap out your air filter and see if you can figure out what the difference is. Test should be conducted with the windows up and stereo turned up to eliminate any accoustic differences.

my thoughts exactly...you won't feel that. i'm willing to bet most of that is eaten up by the drivetrain. slow is slow..there's no getting around that. :lol:

I did a test years ago on a Scirocco and there was no difference between no air cleaner and the factory air cleaner in the track acceleration tests I used.

I guess the K&N must have a little turbocharger in it....:icon_bigg

 

I'm doing a dyno run on my H6 and if it isn't too difficult or expensive I'm going to do one with no air cleaner at all, for reference.
