Mblock66
like I said I know nothing about rims. I don't understand how they could be more expensive for 1 then it is for an entire set of a lot of other rims. I guess it is the same thing as sony, tiffany's, etc
Xenonk
like I said I know nothing about rims. I don't understand how they could be more expensive for 1 then it is for an entire set of a lot of other rims. I guess it is the same thing as sony, tiffany's, etc it's also how it's built, the type of metal quality grade used, the process making it, final strength tests, R&D time, and that's just scratching the surface. Of course there's a mark up for them for buying them as name brand, but they perform well. Not all aluminum wheels are the same and not all rim makers use the same rim process, watch: http://www.jrponline.com/downloads/mm/rays.wmv Keefe

EL PAALO
like I said I know nothing about rims. I don't understand how they could be more expensive for 1 then it is for an entire set of a lot of other rims. I guess it is the same thing as sony, tiffany's, etc sony pays for the r&d and then other companies sell the same tech a few months later for less because they didn't have the initial cost to recoup. tiffany's is paying for a name which is what you're suggesting, imo. of course there is a premium for a brand name. partly due to the reasons xenonk already listed, partly because it's an original design unlike all the cheap wheels which are just copies or brands like volk, ssr, etc, and because they have more overhead for advertising/racing as well. the progressiv te is forged which means it can be as strong or stronger than a cheap cast wheel and still weigh less. less rotational mass translates to less wear on your suspension and brakes. it's also a new wheel for 2005 from volk and rays prices for wheels are always higher for the first year or two. are they worth it? maybe. Xenonk
it's also a new wheel for 2005 from volk and rays prices for wheels are always higher for the first year or two. are they worth it? maybe. probably not, specially in the racing world or extreme high performance.. I mean, seriously, of the "abuse" I put my rims through the track with the SSRs, I dont see what's the point of getting a so-called "stronger" rim unless you are REALLY putting some insane forces to produce stress cracks from uber amounts of braking and insane torque out of the motor to turn the wheels all while using incredible grippy slick tires. If you want a STRUCTURAL strong rim while keeping it light, get a mesh wheel which is made of high-quality forged (some exteme forging pressures) aluminum. EL PAALO
that's why the se37k is so appealing to me. cornering loads are the biggest factor for stress cracks and such afaik. my main point was that the high price is not just because of "fashion" or "name brand" as he suggested. it's that plus alot more most of which you detailed.
