PGT
http://www.dlmag.com/uploads/news/photos/art247/alpine_blackbird_pmd-b100.jpg I think, price dependant, I will get one of these and flush it into the cubby. It looks like it matches the dash well and Alpine does the OEM for Acura/Honda and others. Should be a nice unit - plus, it integrates with their other products like the upcoming OEM integration pieces.

PGT
much? Alpine has some stuff coming that allows you to run a system independent of the OEM stuff as well as tie in. For old school people, it's like the CD changers of days past where the controller had an RCA output. Mount the control panel and you are 'in bidness', as we used to say. PGT
$699 MSRP and release in March. We are doing a long road trip at the end of April - I'd like to have something installed and running by then.
jsalicru
saw this a couple of weeks ago being preorder offered on crutchfield. I am skeptical until I read actual reviews of this unit. A portable system is WAY different than the others that Alpine does. Yeah, but this doesn't look too much different than the other setups.. You can actually "dock" this and have it work like a regular NAV on the main screen of your Alpine if you had an Alpine with a screen. Seems like a great unit with considerably smaller dimensions than setups offered by other companies. I certainly am keeping an eye on it since my wife really wants NAV. "some say, his arms are made of coiled adamantium fibers. And that he tops his cereal with nuts and bolts. All we know is, he's called the Jose." drewster
i'm also curious about the "docking" aspect of the unit. If it is able to dock and provide full functionality that you can get from Alpine's DVD nav system NVE-N872A (list $1700), it would be a real money saver. I would be tempted to stick one of those motorized screened DIN units into the cubby. It would take care of satellite radio, mp3 playback and offer real RCA outputs. redline76
I just noticed the address on the unit; it's Alpine's headquarters I should know, I'm 1/2 a block away
dark_rex
looks a lot like the navman (although a little more $$)
morrias
Like it was mentioned, the cool thing is that it docks and you can control it from an alpine deck with the touchscreen. The new alpine decks have a high speed iPod controller (using only a cable, no dumb box), and bluetooth options as well. In theory you could buy all the pieces and have all of the things our cars are missing. What's odd is that the flagship aline touchscreen isn't as advanced as the lesser model coming out in march. The blackbird also doesn't offer the zagat survey restuarant data, which is a bummer.
