hogmeat
OK - everyone here knows I did an uppipe install, and all the drama associated with it. Well, I had left my cover off to examine things - in case anything went wrong...been fine for 2 weeks, so I call it done. Anyways, went to put it back on - and it wont align right. I mean, if you put the popits in the I/C - then the other two are like 3/4 an inch away from the other holes!!! D'oh! Why is this? I think I'll throw some clues out - when putting my IC back on - it didnt wanna align with the turbo's output flange - I mean, I had to "pull" it towards it, to get the bolts on. This seems common with almost everyone. So, it seems when I loosened my turbo up for the UP install, it's now a little crooked....thus pulling the IC, thus misaligning my holes. I let the uppipe decide where the tubro would go, as I bolted it on with the turbo loose (as to not put any stress on the flex) and then tightened the turbo where the flex put it at. So any ideas here - or did i just answer my own question?? I'm pleasantly surprised... It was most certainly worth the couple bucks and 10 mins of my time. PGT
sounds to me like the TMIC isn't properly reinstalled
hogmeat
I think it's installed right - it's just that I probably do need to clock it a little bit. With all the work I did on my turbo area - it's definately a strong possibility.... I've done a leak check, and am OK on all the flanges.... I'm pleasantly surprised... GTCanada
The cover is a tight fit. I took mine off when I installed my DP and it wouldn't fit correctly when I went to put it back on. There might be a trick to it but I lost patience. Three of the popits went it but the fourth refused. Tom
-TT-
i have never done anything other than UP/DP install and even before that the holes did not line up.... i just use 2 popits.....there is no need for all 4 other than aesthetics.
Ridgeracer
Try installing them in a criss cross pattern but leave them loose to get them in. Once all four are in then push them in. mccorry
There is a green bracket that the IC is bolted to on the drivers side. This bracket is also bolted to the intake manifold on the drivers side with 2 bolts. Loosen these 2 bolts... reposition the IC .... then tighten them back down. PhilT
Position the top cover over the engine and intercooler, then run a drill down through the popit holes in the cover. This will make new holes where the popits can fit into, then just push them in, easy Double Award Winning Legacy GT Wagon
Chappy
Just leave the cover off. The engine will run cooler with it off.

I'm sure the turbo is 'clocked' a little. I mean, I had it free floating 3 different times, along with a new pipe that's bound to be a little different from stock... I'm not gonna worry - no cover for me. Even after 1,000 miles, I have a small wear spot on my plastic intake manifold - probably from rubbing.... I'm pleasantly surprised... Deer Killer
Mine didn't fit stock, had to bend the brackets to get a good fit.

hogmeat
Did you have to use 90ft-lbs on the turbo bolts when you reinstalled the IC? No - I just had to gently "pull" the entire assembly torwards me, then they went in easily. I may be stupid, but i know better than to strip an aluminum thread.... No leaks - I did the soapy water test - and some higher revs... I'm pleasantly surprised... It was most certainly worth the couple bucks and 10 mins of my time.
