ntadime
I had my XM radio installed using an FM modulator (the Delphi one). Sounds good to me. Since the audio input from the radio is thru the audio out of the xm (Roady 2), could any device with an audio out(such as an MP3, Ipod, etc) work through the modulator? I tried it with a small MP3 player and nothing. Thanks

ThanksIf I know the one you're talking about, the Delphi kit is not an FM modulator, it's simply some passive radio filters that connects your Roady2's FM modulator to your vehicle's radio antenna wire directly. The audio out on the Roady2 is only an output for line level audio. It cannot be used as an input for its internal FM modulator. So, no; no other audio devices can be hooked up to your radio using the setup you have currently. You would need another FM modulator/transmitter or some other kind of mod. direavenger
^^^Jazzy has a great alternative, if you don't mind playing around with the inside of your stereo a little. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18504&highlight=aux-in Lots of us have tried it an love it. Best of all, it will take a line level signal in so you can connect anything with a line-level (or headphone) out. The Dude - Two inches and counting... ntadime
Thanks, I know about the aux in adaption but that is simply beyond my comfort level. I'll stick to the XM and CD's.The sound is good for my needs, much better then the over the air fm modulator witht he Roady 2.So, the Delphi FM Modulator isn't an FM modulator? It says FM Modulator Kit on the box. Don't get it.
BLACKeNeD
The FM modulator I am using with my SkyFi 2 works with my ipod. I just had to find a 2 way male splitter and tada. One plug goes into my XM and one plug hangs for another audio in. I just mute the XM when I plug in my ipod. I am not sue which Modulator it is. Oh, the XM reciever has to be powered on for the modulator to work. I tried to turn of the SkiFi 2 and got nothing. That's why I mute it.
coxx
+1 I have a 3 way switch on my wired FM modulator. Using 1 for my sirius, 1 for my ipod, & one is not used. "Barack Obama, mothaf#%@a! Barack Obama! I'm the president...of hittin' the ass!" -this is not a political view it's merely a quote from a hilarious tv show.
jazzymt
So, the Delphi FM Modulator isn't an FM modulator? It says FM Modulator Kit on the box. Don't get it.Well, maybe...are you talking about this: http://www.shopdelphicatalog.com/showProduct.aspx?programCategoryProductId=92&programCategoryId=10&navigationId=17 or this: http://www.shopdelphicatalog.com/showProduct.aspx?programCategoryProductId=78&programCategoryId=10&navigationId=17 Delphi makes both, along with several others, so a model number is needed to say for sure. It's possible you have a modulator and all you need is an audio splitter. Still, the audio jack on the Roady2 is only an output. If you want to connect another device, you need to connect it to the Modulator. The reason I assumed it was the "FM Direct Adapter" is because if the FM modulator was connected to your Roady2, you would not have any open audio jacks. ntadime
OK Now I'm thoroughly confused. Actually, that's usual for me. So I have a Roady 2 installed with the in line fm modulator. One plug is power, then the antenna, then the plug from the audio out of the roady to the modulator. Isn' t the internal modulator of the roady shut off when something, such as speaker or headphones, are plugged in? So the signal (audio out) goes from the roady 2 to the modulator which is plugged into the antenna input in the back of the head unit. Right? So, if I unplugged only the audio line that goes from roady to modulator and instead plug it into an MP3 players audio out, leave the roady switched on, shouldn't the signal from the mp3 go to the modulator and play thru the headunit? Does the output need to be high enough? Maybe thats why it didn't work?
BLACKeNeD
I did notice that the output for my ipod had to be pretty loud. The sound is kinda muted through the modulator. You should still hear something though

The one thing I would change is to turn off the Roady2 when your other device is hooked up to the modulator...the two modulators might be fighting eachother, which could be screwing up your FM signal...if that doesn't work, I'm afraid I still don't understand exactly how you've got everything hooked up. ntadime
OK, I got it, the MP3 player volume wasn't high enough, thats why it didn't seem to work. The XM has to be on so it seems that there would need to be some type of A-B switch if I want to leave both devices plugged in.
