Drakuun
Since the perception of Subarus Legacy ad campaign is one of non-exsistance, I thought I'd post that, this weekend, on my local ABC channel I caught not one, but two Ad's aimed specifically at the Legacy. The first, was touting the GT's recent 1st place saftey rating for it's class. I can't remember which authority named it such.. The second ad was specifically for the Legacy Special Edition. Both used the common 'Think, Feel, Drive" catch phrase. Touting the Saftey makes sense, but I was in wonder as to why they'd advertise the SE which is basically a gussied up 2.5i over making a straight up GT commercial. Only things I could figure was 1: They want to maintain the GT's sleeper heratage, and not cross over to much into the Performance candies they offer in the WRX/STi, and 2: The profit margins on 2.5i's gussied is probably higher than GT's or plain old 2.5i's. Hey- Worked on me..
Guest *Jedimaster*
The one in the commerical is a GT. I like that commercial- it shows the cars that didn't make the grade and then the GT which did. Nice marketing strategy. I'd like to see more about the performance of the car in a commercial though- like the early print campaign that told what cars it beat in terms of acceleration/ handling/ what have you. leggtnut
I remember that last model year that they had a model lineup comercial that featured the 05 GT. They had all the other cars driving on 2 wheels (front or back) and had the GT weaving in and out of all the proped up cars. jagcars26
Besides the 2.5i commercials on the tube ,Subaru is running some strong radio here(Baltimore area) as well. Rudy
Rely18
yeah i hear the subaru radio ad more than i see any Legacy commercials. i always get excited because the radio ad is a fake weather report calling for a lot of snow (sounds like a real report at first) and a high chance of subaru owners driving down unplowed roads. Drakuun
']Sounds like a really effective commercial. Well, seeming as I already own a Suby- it was 'lost' on me in the first place. I happened to see it as I was loading a new Firefly DVD into the player..so I wasn't really paying much attention to it. I saw the other ad last night as I flipping channels.. only reason I remembered seeing the first one was because I caught the other one. But yeah- Effective or Ineffective either way.. I don't generally pay ad's any mind anyways.. I'm not an average consumer, not by a long shot.
IwannaSportSedan
My wife actually noticed that Legacy Safety commercial, and she actively ignores commercials. I think the safety aspect impressed her, too. She doubtfully would have noticed if I weren't such a car freak, and Legacy fan, and talk about it. BTW: nice to hear of more browncoats on the forum! IwannaSportSedan
So did my wife. I did mention it, but not very much. Plus, just minutes after my wife had secretly purchased them, I went to the same counter to ask if they had any in stock... While my wife and another clerk stood there silent. I didn't end up buying it though, thankfully. Over christmas break, I watched all 14 episodes, followed by Serenity (the movie...) in succession. I am thinking of watching them again more slowly, to fully absorb them. they all kind of ran together... This is way off topic, though I am still wating to see any more commercials aside from the 2-vs-4 driven wheels, and the gold safety rating. The Outback commercials I was occasionally seeing are now gone, too, including the LLBean deer trail one. Subaru should not have left the ad company that had Lance Armstrong as an endorser. The REALLY old Subaru commercial that showed Lance and an LGT was a good one, and also a short run.
EddieWan
I'm just glad to see commericals about the legacy. I'd never seen the legacy till I was on the car lot looking to see what was new. Subaru could use more advertisment on the legacy.
IwannaSportSedan
That is funny. Actually she rolls her eyes whenever i start talking about car paint colors and anything she considers minutia. you know, small little stuff like horsepower and AWD. Yet she has no trouble getting about 10,000 swatches when she wants to paint the walls in our house. Funny how that works. But really, she is great, and she mostly ignores my ranting, raving, obsessing and other character "traits" when it comes to me and cars. Probably maintains her sanity, and I can appreciate that. Thrasher
I like the fact that they don't brag on the Legacy's performance. Those that need to know, know. If they have to ask if it scoots, it's cuz they don't know, and probably never will. Plus, it's a brilliant technique to get Mama happy that Papa is buying such a safe foo-foo mobile. She doesn't need to know that it breathes turbo-charged fire (and she'll never know cause it comes from the factory so quiet), and that Papa is going to be throwing go-fast parts in the family sedan when she's not looking. Brilliant.

Anibalz
As far I've noticed, Subaru does more printed advertisement than tv, or is it than domestics are over-advertised on tv? rfd425
Safety is a great selling point for getting moms to buy a Legacy 2.5i, but personally I think that performance will pull on heartstrings more than safety as far as the GT is concerned. They need to get the word out about the performance level of these cars. Back in my Audi Club days (~1998-2001), I knew guys that had deposits down for two years for the twin-turbo S4, before anyone knew for sure the S4 was even going to come to the USA. And the deposit gave them the right to pay full MSRP for the car if and when it was brought over. This was for a car that had roughly the same power as the LGT but was 300 pounds heavier, less reliable, and more expensive to maintain. Yet, it was considered a holy grail by Audi enthusiasts. Subaru should really be able to capture the imagination of some of those guys with the LGT.
phuzaxeman
My wife actually noticed that Legacy Safety commercial, and she actively ignores commercials. I think the safety aspect impressed her, too. i think the commercial is pretty bland. why advertise "faster than porche" magazine stuff and then preach about safety in a TV commercial, when most people know that the subbie (practically all new ones) is safe. we knew the legacy was safe, but that's not what sold usl. subaru needs to have commercials like the mustang or lexus kickin butt. IwannaSportSedan
I think they should have a commercial for the Legacy GT that does both. Safety does sell cars now-a-days, with more concious consumers. I agree that the commercial is a bit bland. I was just impressed that my wife noticed that it was a Legacy GT on TV. She doesn't pay attention to commercials much at all, and she can (in her own words here:) "Barely pick out my own car in a parking lot." She drives a red miata, BTW. Not a quiet looking or ubiquitous car in central Iowa. She usually can't pick out my tall blue truck at all. On the other hand she thinks I am insane because I can identify almost any car by headlight or taillight at night. How about this: Sort of a modification on the new Legacy Safety commercial. Subaru Legacy has been named a Gold award winner by the IIHS, besting the Volvo S40, A4, BMW, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, (and so on...) Oh, And By the way, with 250 turbocharged horsepower and Subaru All-Wheel Drive, the Legacy GT bests their performance, as well. (camera shot pans from looking at the front of the Legacy driving on a highway, around the side, to a rear view shot, and the legacy all of the sudden puts the pedal down and accellerates very noticeably into the sunset...) Think, Feel, Drive... Fast. Subaru. Whaddya think? kind of a take-off on the old MG slogan of "Safety Fast". Post your own commercial storyboards, too. We'll see if Subaru of America really does read this board, if we see some new Legacy Commercials on Television... Then by the post date, we can argue for royalties.
