STi21
I'm hoping to get some help with a project I'm working on… I would like to purchase the Legacy GT OEM STi Gauge Pack... but I don't have a Legacy GT. What I do have is a 2006 WRX STi... and I want to avoid any aftermarket parts. Now, Subaru does sell a Gauge Pack that fits on the dashboard of the WRX and replaces the OEM Clock housing. But the quality and look of this Gauge Pack is not really what I'm hoping for. So here's a thought. The WRX STi has a standard double DIN stereo. If I replace the double DIN stereo with a single DIN stereo, this would leave me with a single DIN opening. Would it be possible to fit the Legacy GT OEM STi Gauge Pack into a standard single DIN opening? How comparable is it to the DEFI DIN Gauge Pack with respect to fitment? I've seen from pictures that the kit comes with some proprietary brackets... can these be removed? The actual face of the Gauge Pack seems to be a standard single DIN sized face. Can anyone confirm this? I would greatly appreciate any insight on this. Thank you! Erik S. Eston PS. Yes, my wife and I are looking at a Legacy GT for our next car purchase…
Opie
I've installed the STi Gauge Pack in my Legacy and would say it should fit and work with out much trouble, you will just have to figure out how to mount it in the DIN opening as the brackets it comes with won't work... It comes with the wiring that leads out to the gauge sensors, and it draws power from the stereo leads and the Legacy & STi share the same stereo lead pinouts... jsalicru
the LGT STi guage pack is pretty much the same as a Defi DIN setup. It will work on the STi. You could either slap it on the clock area or if you have a 04 STi or a single DIN HU, you can slap it in the double DIN hole for the HU too. "some say, his arms are made of coiled adamantium fibers. jsalicru
I'll tell you this though... Have you seen a Defi pod with Ambers in person?? It pretty much looks OEM. I saw it and fell in love. Bought the pod and three guages the very next morning. Never looked back. I also converted the HVAC and key to red. I had a Alpine unit with red buttons to finish it off. STi21
Thank you for your help… Yes, I’m fairly confident that the wiring/sensors won’t be an issue. It’s the actual fitment of the Gauge Pack that worries me a bit. I’m guessing that I would be the first person to try this. I did look at the DEFI Ambers. Very, very nice. But I’m trying to stick with only STi branded parts. Thank you again. If anyone else has any more input, it’s always appreciated. Erik S. jsalicru
You didn't understand. Sensors are sensors.. I know those work. Duh! We have the same motor. What Im talking about is that the STi gauge pack is based on the Defi DIN Gauges. Also, Sti gauge pack is MADE BY DEFI. Same thing with the JDM STi Genome guage pack. Here's a picture of the STi Genome guage pack. http://www.japanparts.com/New_web/SUBARU/ImprezaGG_GD/1011_002/00604.JPG And here's a pic of the DIN Guage series that Defi has. The Legacy performance gauge pack is based on these. These are designed to fit in a standard DIN hole... just like the Legacy setup. http://www.defi-shop.com/images/din-top.jpg P.S. Before you ask, the Genome setup lights up green, so its not perfect in a STi. "some say, his arms are made of coiled adamantium fibers. And that he tops his cereal with nuts and bolts. STi21
I did understand 100%. In fact, I’ve ‘played with’ most of the DEFI Gauges… but I’ve never actually seen this new Legacy GT STi Gauge Pack in person. Hence my anxiety. I’m going to assume at this point that it’ll fit nicely in a standard DIN opening, just like the DEFI DIN Gauge Pack does, and go ahead and order one. Thank you again for your help… Erik S.
