jj808
Anyone have any recommendation for a dependable dealership in the area? I am going to be purchasing the Sti Gauge cluster and want to have them installed at a dealership so they will be covered under warranty. The closer to Pt Loma (I get lost easily here) the better but i am willing to go a ways out for a quality place.
wayoutwest
Irvine Subaru does good work, ... but probably about 1 hour away. You don't really need a dealer to install gauges ... you could try I-Speed... they're pretty close to you.
SBT
Check with Rick Dell, the Subaru Master Tech at Rancho Subaru on Clairemont Mesa Blvd. Addy is: 8118 Clairemont Mesa Blvd San Diego, CA 92111 858-278-7100 Tell him I suggested him specifically. I'm sure you can work out a time to get in to have your gauges installed. It will likely be pricey as these things go...figure $200-300 at least @ $95/hour Alternatively, let me know if you want to do it yourself and I can likely help you. jj808
I would like to do it myself but i have 0 i mean 0 experience doing this. When i start messing with things like the turbo and oil lines then i get really nervous and leary. Last thing i want to do is ruin my car. If this was a beater car that was totally paid off and i had a 2nd car to drive then i would be utterly willing to do this myself but... Anyway, the dealer that is selling these gauges is willing to fax me the instructions so i can see just how "plug and play" these guages are. Im going to take a look at them and go from there. wayoutwest
Actually, those gauges would be a piece of cake even for someone who doesn't have experience. The 2 oil gauges will plug into the filter sandwich adapter from Defi, and the boost just needs to be T'd into the BOV line. There really is nothing to screw up here. Now if you were talking about an EGT gauge, you'd have a point.

SBT
I was so glad to see Balboa lose their franchise. I've had nothing but great results from Rancho Subaru and particular from John K (service writer) and Rick Dell the master tech. I regularly talk or email Leann the Subaru brand manager there and once they move into their Subaru-only facility, you should see even better service. But that's only my experience. YMMV... jbm
Is John K still there? I don't think he is, and I have yet to have a "great" experience at Rancho. They are always slow, don't return phone calls, and the rental car companies they use provide terribly crappy cars and service. They also have ridiculous dealer service reccomendations. They wanted to replace the differential fluids on the 2nd oil change for $250+. It may just be a service advisor/management problem because I have had no problem with the work so far, but their service is crap. I will probably try Bob Baker for service next time, hopefully it's alot better even tho it's a less convenient location for me.
jj808
I gave them a call and it seems that they will be moving to a new location starting next week. So i guess ill have to wait a little longer to put these gauges in.

SBT
Rancho's Subaru franchise is moving to 4797 Convoy Street at the corner of Ronson Road and Convoy about two blocks west and south of their previous location. New facility is Kearny Mesa Hyundai-Subaru. Phone number 858-278-7100 which was their previous number. I'd like to know if John K is still there. grn
Aside from the Subaru dealership on Convoy, has anyone had experience with the dealership up in Carlsbad. I need a standard oil change but I'm a bit wary of dealerships as they usually charge waay more.
Longitude
^Never tried Carlsbad yet. If you don't do it yourself, maybe check out at allwheeljunkies.com san diego region forum. There's an oil change shop where a lot of SD guys give mad props. A great alternative to self or dealer service.
grn
Cool. I just found the shop you were refering to. It's Econolube down in National City. It's a little far from Encinitas, but I think I'll check it out.
mlloydlgt
Anything that will do mod friendly stuff that isn't Kearny? Too $$$$!!! $300 to replace a Turbo/D.P. gasket.
