Gotta love the Fumoto valve.

Recommended Posts

I did an oil change today and man do I love the fumoto valve. Before I would have to bust out the oil eaters and start scrubbing everywhere after I finished , today I did not see one bit of oil on the floor.

I have 1 question though. I am at 20k miles and I noticed that there are still some metal shavings in the drain pan. Is this normal? I figured at 3k or 5k or an earlier mileage to see some shavings but this engine is still putting out some metal shavings. I also saw a little bit more at 15k.

Try putting a magnet by your Fumoto valve;)

I only tighten the filter by hand but damn.....every time I try to take it off I have to wrench it:(

No other car I have owned is so hard to remove the filter!

Toyota 6EATS .........SUCK!!!!!!

I was gonna get the fumoto valve, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

I just changed mine and didn't have a problem with the filter being too tight.

As for not having a mess if you hold it verticle, not true in my case. I had the damn oil all over my hand, and running down my arm.

Next time I will puncture it first and drain it before I remove it.

Had the fumoto on since the first oil change and love it. I've now got one on every car we own. I haven't had any problems with oil spillage from the filter. I'm usually very very careful while unscrewing it, keeping it perfectly vertical and setting in my drain pan though.

Break the seal (with a drain pan underneath)... let the oil gallies drain, and then screw it off the rest of the way...... = no mess.

Yes I love my Fumoto valve! I used it through 2 of 3 oil changed on my car and it makes it sooo easy. Especially if you accidentally overfill the motor with oil.

Does anyone ever remove the fumoto valve to let the remaining oil and sediment at the bottom of the pan drain out?

Mccorry is right about the no mess filter removal. Unscrew it a bit and let the excess oil drain out. Once it's done you can remove it mess free, but keep it vertical because it's still filled with oil.

Another way to remove the filter without mess is to put a cup over it and unscrew it with the cup. I read about it here and did it last weekend on my Vue using a red plastic "keg" cup. Worked perfectly.

The interior diameter of the tubing if you are using the fumoto valve with the nipple should be 3/8." I just used some vynil tubing from the HomeDepot. Its cheap as it costed $3 for 6 ft of it although you really only need about 5" of the stuff. Last time I checked Lowes sells it by the foot if you want to save a few $.

Before I had the the fumoto valve installed, the underside belly cover would screw up everything because the oil would hit the pan first and then go everywhere, now with the valve I can direct the oil so it doesnt hit the cover.

As for the oil filter issue I did the break the seal method. Surprisingly I haven't had to use a wrench to remove the oil filter...although it is freakin hot whenver I grip to loosen.

Also can anyone comment on if they still see metal shavings? Its a little worrysome to see shavings at 20k when I didn't see any shavings in my audi's and honda's oil.
