cbroo
well I got my car tuned up about three weeks ago fixed my knock sensor and other stuff, and earlier today got in my car started her up and my check engine light came on so i'm calling the mechanic tomorrow an seeing if he will check it out, but would it be easier if I went to checker auto parts and checked out what's wrong. Does anyone have the codes to know whats wrong? Keep in mind I have a 2001 LGT I also have 90,000+ miles on it. I'm thinking it's my O2 sensor or maybe my fuel pump because it's starting up very weird lately. Any help would be appericated.
stanjk3
Get the code read, then tell us what it is. OBD II codes are the same from MY '95 (at least for the Legacy) to current. Our '95 Legacy has OBD II. Fuel pump shouldn't affect how the car starts. This site lists them, for some it gives more info. http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/index.php Friends don't let friends drink cheap beer. Did I do a smart thing by resetting my computer.
stanjk3
Well if anything major was wrong with your car, the CEL will come back on. If it's just a random glitch or something simple like not tightening your gas cap, it won't. Friends don't let friends drink cheap beer.
GTsleeper
stanjk3-- for future knowledge a fuel pump will/can effect how a car starts. but will not set a code
ilh
My car ran for months with the ECU unable to read the air/fuel (O2) sensor due to a bent pin. It did not turn on the CEL or log any codes.
stanjk3
stanjk3-- for future knowledge a fuel pump will/can effect how a car starts. but will not set a code Obviously if it's dead or there's a clog somewhere that prevents any fuel flow, then yeah your car won't start. But I figured even if it's about to die and/or there's at least some fuel flow, your car should still start. Granted, it might stall a few seconds later and/or run like crap, then occasionally stall out. Friends don't let friends drink cheap beer.
mand3j
I've got a 98 Outback with 89k that has been giving me misfire codes for cylinders 1 and 2. Replaced coil pack, plug wires, full tuneup, o2 sensors but with no luck. The car is hesitating more and more. My mechanic is speculating carbon build up. Unfortunately, no luck so far with additives trying to clear it out. If you come up with an answer, let me know. As of now, I'm trying to limp the car to Summer and trade it in on an '
GTsleeper
^^^ YES, he is right but probably not where he thinks. ive seen this before!!! have ur mechanic remove the exhaust manifolds. there probably is a ton of build up in the port. if thats the case remove that crap & u should be good-to-go. U must remove manifolds, running cleaners arent going to help!! manually remove the carbon build-up & to fully do the job the head should be repolished. so it doesnt happen again BUT not required. it would just add to labor & it probably would take another 89k to do it. also check all the ports & do as needed
