Yeah it is a 2009 concept. As is the new camaro concept that is being proposed at GM

Left and right sides of the car are slightly different to porpose 2 different designs.

The old challenger was the same car as the 'cuda. Dodge badge or Plymouth badge... But they can't bring back Barracuda, because they unceremoniously canned Plymouth.

I know that the Muscle car guys are gonna love it. I am not so sold on it, though. It is a big, heavy car. At least it has a stick, which is a long time coming... Plus it will probably have independent rear suspension, unlike a certain new 'pony' car. (which is also too heavy and a design re-hash)

I like the look of the new mustang, but Ford botched it by making it bulky, and catering to the 20% die-hard drag racers with the live axle rear end. The Challenger and Camaro concepts seem like copycats of a copycat by copying themselves...

I mean, are we supposed to be re-living 1968 or something here? One retro is interesting. A half a dozen are a trend. This is becoming an epidemic. (negative connotation...)

For the love of pete, a NEW design that doesn't suck, PLEASE! I swear if it isn't retro, it is trying to be high-falutin' rolling sculpture. How about new ways for form to follow function. That is what designers are supposed to be able to develop... Not for new ways for function to follow re-hashed old form...

Have the automotive designers just run out of steam altogether??? I guess we'll find out next week with the NAIAS coverage from Detroit... I am at least looking forward to some nice big shots of the Aston Martin Rapide.

Just read the whole article in one of the car mags (think it was R&T, could have been MT) while waiting at the tire store for my new MPS ASs to be installed.

Personally, I love this car - keeps the original styling cues but updated in a very modern and well-put-together package. Quantum leaps ahead of the original in every dimension.

Unfortunately, Dodge cannot build this car because they do not have the capacity to build any more cars at this point - they're going full bore at all of their available production facilities. Dodge execs are speculating that this could become a reality in 2008 if production capacity can be freed up to build it.

Couple of quick recollections:

  1. Autostick only at this point
  2. Rear axle is solid
  3. Hemi will be available but only the 400ish HP range (370 CID)
  4. Suspension still needs some tunig to match the rest of the package.

That's all I can remember at tihs point

the camaro looks like a caveman with the heavy ridgeline above the headlights, I dont care for that, it needs to be more 1st gen RS style the 69 RS/SS was the best looking camaro that was ever produced IMO, you know with the hideaway headlights and 2 SS stripes on the horizontal surfaces.. http://www.michianacruisers.com/images/members/69-hoffman.jpg

I've always wanted one to look at, but as you know, old cars are not fun to drive, just to look at.. unless you live I dunno in kansas where they dont have curves in roads

Yeah sorry to say that Camaro concept is ugly as sin and I don't think it even remotely looks like the vintage car.

The Challenger is sweet looking though as I always was a Hemi Cuda fan ever since the movie Phantasm so I'm really diggin that concept.

I think both concepts are incredible. I'm definitely more partial to the camaro though, because I'm almost getting sick of retro cars now. with the camaro concept, it only looks like the name has been brought back, as that car looks nothing like any camaro before.
