kristian
You need: A 6 foot 3.5MM connector cable with plugs on both ends Additionally, you might want: Combination line out/power adapter such as the Belkin Auto Kit--you will get better sound quality than simply using the headphone jack. Ground loop isolator--you will get a hum in the background if you power your iPod at the cigarette lighter and plug it in to the Jazzy input. The GLI will stop the hum. 1 foot 3.5mm connector cable and a female to female 3.5mm patch--this is helpful if you want to change cables at some point because you won't have to tear the head unit apart each time. Run the 1 foot cable out of the head unit and the connect up the longer cable. I originally set everything up with the ground loop isolator but then started having problems when I introduced the Belkin Auto Kit. The signal from the Auto Kit would cut out every 5 seconds or so. Removing the ground loop isolator fixed the cut out problem but I do have a humming noise now. It's only noticable when the iPod isn't playing though so it doesn't bother me. It probably would bother an audiophile so keep that in mind. For every cable change, I had to open up the whole head unit, remove the CD changer, plug in the new cable, and then put everything back together. Using a short 1 foot cable going out of the head unit from the start would have saved quite a bit of screwing around.

How is it that the Belkin Auto Kit produced better sound quality? It sounds like you either have the ground loop hum or cutting out, neither of which sounds very desirable or better than the headphone jack. I'm curious, because I am about to install jazzy plus iPod myself. I don't think I am going to power the iPod, but I am planning to install a GLI just in case I change my mind in the future and only want to go into the dash once. I am troubled to hear that something like the Belkin and the GLI can interfere with eachother. --Lee

Others have had similar success. I almost wonder if Kristian maybe has some crossed wires or a bad connection somewhere. I got nearly all of the parts from Radio Shack. NatesGr8
i used this . search around the site they have some other good stuff, if you go with that wire, might as well get the gli too.

Chris There really aren't any wires that could have been crossed and I checked the connections.... The Radio Shack GLI worked fine with my older style Belkin charger and the 3.5mm plugged into the headphone jack. I bought an Auto Kit and then had cut out issues. I returned the Auto Kit as defective and got another one--but still had cut out issues. I replaced the GLI with a standard 3.5mm cable and the cut out issues went away using the Auto Kit. This means that either: A) The ground loop isolator was defective B) Two separate Auto Kits were defective C) There is something weird with the eb and flow of power to the lighter in my car I don't know which of those was causing my problem. I have read at least 2 other people on this site who have successfully used the Auto Kit and the Radio Shack GLI so my problem seems to be isolated. I would suggest that anyone who wants to use this setup install a short patch cord coming out of your head unit rather than running the GLI's Y patch directly to the Jazzy board. That way if you DO have the same problem I am having, it's easier to pull the GLI.
foghat
I have had problems with the sound cutting out in the past. I could be wrong but it seems to me that the Belkin car kit gets very hot causing it to cut out, try leaving the center compartment door open for a few minutes and see if that stops the cut out problem. If the sound does not cut out with the door open then it is just a over heating problem which can be solved many ways.
