d0bdish18
Hello. Legacy 2.5 2016 here with 159,000 KM (98K Miles). For the past year or so I had this clunking noise coming from my rear right side when I'm turning or going over some uneven road. Now, for the past month, the same noise coming from the front left, but not when I'm going over shallow smooth bumps. Front sway bar links were changed last year. The rear sway bar links were changed 2 years ago. I've checked the suspension and the only things I can see are these (although I'm not sure if they explain the noise): Rear Left : The Upper Control Arm boot has a small crack in it and I can see some grease Front Left: The outer tie rod is leaking grease While the Front Left sound might be related to the Front Left tie rod, I'm lost about the Rear Right sound since the boot of the Control Arm has a crack on the Left side. That little spring for the steering rack was replaced a few times, and I know how it sounds - it's not it. Any suggestions (and I mean ANY) will be much appreciated. Here is the clip with those sounds (rear and front): Thank you very much!
Beamercub
Have you checked the strut mounts? Front and reaR? I'm actually having an issue with my front sway bar end links.. I plan on replacing the actual sway bar bushings as well.. Have you replaced the sway bar bushings - the ones that mount to the subframe? Another area to check for the front could be ball joints.. My front passenger went bad around 100k miles. Wheel bearings... To date I have replaced them all and i'm at 131k miles currently... Good luck.,
Max Capacity
Sway bar end links have been known to go bad on earlier models, maybe check those too. Most of us found them by going over cracks in the driveway at slow speed. It's that easy to find the sound. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. MoleMan
If you are modded check what Max Capacity said above. Seems like a control arm to me. Possibly an end link. Only way to tell is to put it on a rack.
Beamercub
I'm also having a similar noise/ sound.. It only happens when i'm turning left and going over any uneven pavement or the slightest bump. I had thought it might be the passenger front CV axle? I noticed the axle boot wasn't in the best shape and seems to be oozing grease... Another thing to point out is: I changed the passenger sway bar end link , but in the process I REALLY had to cut the bolt out... It didn't help that I hacked away at the back side of the nut which really chewed up the mounts for the end links themselves... The hole where the bolt goes thru is a little larger mangled lol.. I'm able to torque the nut down.... I had thought with the hole being enlarged if that could be the clunking i'm hearing while turning left.... I had also thought it was inner/ out tie rod.. Frustrating.. The clunking sound is not a good sound at all.. I'm all over the place... Anyone care to chime in?
d0bdish18
After replacing swaybar links again, the noise is gone. It looks like swaybar links from Napa died very quickly....
Max Capacity
I found that Moog end links work well. They are grease able. I haven't checked to see if the ones for this Gen are also grease able. You can check your end links, by driving the car up on ramps and seeing if you can wiggle them by hand. They should be tight. I seem to recall the suspension has to have weight on it to replace them. Yes, they appear to have zerts. Oh, to make life easier, pick up a Lock N Lube grease gun hose attachment that locks onto the zert, they are awesome. https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/moog-stabilizer-bar-link-k750906/12089271-P?source=certona https://locknlube.com/collections/locknlube-grease-coupler 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs.
