kgreene
Just got a new 06 outback 2.5XT, I'm wondering what people's opinions are about permaplate? The car is black which I understand it the hardest to keep looking new. Is there another type of sealant product I can have done that is as good or better and cheaper? I get the feeling that permaplate is partly an insurance policy and partly a clearcoat... Also, do people have experience as to what happens after you buy it? I had permaplate on an older car I had, but didn't actually pay for it (it was on the one at the dealership but I didn't want it so I sort of got it for free but didn't get the insurance or anything)...but it had special car wash and internal cleaners and things to go with it...will I have to use their brand items forever to keep the warranty? I have the leather seat trim, is the permaplate leather protectant any good compared to other products? thanks for any info... kevin

OCDetails
LOL better and cheaper than PermaPlate? Wow... I don't know if the site has enough bandwidth for me to type up that list. Everything is better and cheaper than PermaPlate. It is just an overpriced sealant treatment that dealerships like to charge 4 or 5 hundred bucks for and then charge you 60 or 80 bucks every three to six months after that for the next 5 years. If you bought a $20 dollar bottle of Wolfgang Paint Sealant then you could do the same thing that the dealership wants to do and you will be much happier with the results. _________________________________________ “Cleanliness becomes more important as godliness becomes more unlikely.” O C D E T A I L S . OCDetails
It's a little known fact that for years Lexus and Mercedes (among other) dealerships would apply a coat of Klasse Sealant Glaze for a mere $300 bucks a coat. They wouldn't tell you the name of it when they sold it to you either. They would just call it a 'special German sealant' and say nothing more. Once people found out that every other detailer in town was willing to give them the exact same product for a whole lot less (generally $60 bucks compared to $300) the dealerships stopped charging as much. However, some still charge outragous prices for ordinary sealant treatments. They probably even believe most of the lies they tell you about it. _________________________________________ “Cleanliness becomes more important as godliness becomes more unlikely.” O C D E T A I L S . kgreene
Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for. I'll read through the rest of the thread for recommendations for a good sealant and leather conditioner... I had a feeling permaplate was sort of a scam, or it seemed that way 10 years ago...I guess it still is! :-)
