Bicster
"Average HP gains are 5-6. Also with the engine running more efficient, you should see an average of 1-2 mpg."
springnr
I have a CM 25-282 spin-on oil filter. Around 15,000 miles with it on. I'm happy with the UOAs.
Bicster
I have a CM 25-282 spin-on oil filter. Around 15,000 miles with it on. I'm happy with the UOAs. Aside from the excess of apostrophes in their marketing literature, that looks like an interesting filter. I just ran across this one. It looks like it should filter similarly well, but it's disposable: http://www.amsoil.com/products/ea_filters/EaO.aspx Edit: The EAO12 fits the GT. $15.75. Anyone who knows about this stuff care to comment on this beast?
PhilT
There are some serious claims in there, and I would love to see them proven. On one hand they are saying that the oil pressure in the average filter will increase as you increase the performance, but then they say that most filters will run on bypass anyway, which is it ? As the oil pump is directly driven, the volume of oil is directly proportional to the speed of the engine, and as it's impossible to compress a liquid, the pressure is relative to the bearing clearances. I would imagine there is a small relief valve in the pump somewhere to maintain a fairly constant pressure once above idle. And as for gains of 5 - 6 hp , I have to call BS on this one Double Award Winning Legacy GT Wagon
Bicster
And as for gains of 5 - 6 hp , I have to call BS on this one But they did say you'll only be getting 1-2 mpg!!!
Xenonk
And as for gains of 5 - 6 hp , I have to call BS on this one It's going to bypass regardless if it's this "ultra filter" or not.. oil is going to just go where it needs to go.. so there is no hp gain. Anyone who knows about this stuff care to comment on this beast? Did you confirm this by fitting the filter? The reason I'm asking is the last time I called Amsoil to place an order, the girl on the phone said they didn't have anything for our cars. The reason I'm asking is the last time I called Amsoil to place an order, the girl on the phone said they didn't have anything for our cars. I put in two of the Subaru P/N's for our oil filters and they both came back with the same fitment. She probably told you that because if you look it up under Subaru, they don't show any fitments... Strange. The P/N X-ref clearly shows it's a Subaru part, though.
MDTURBO
Neat idea, but probably more trouble than it's worth. I doubt 5hp is gained from an oil filter though... :/ 2012 Forester XT. EddieWan
I too find it hard to believe you could gain hp from an oil filter
Xenonk
^ you can't, you can only increase efficiency.. but since the car bypasses anyways, that is the most efficient way for oil flow. Keefe
Bicster
The hp gains probably come from the Ultra-Filter decal. Anyone know if those Amsoil Ea filters are worth using? Or just a waste of 7 bucks?
ADGT
Maybe i'll just stick with the K&N filter, although i'd still like to get that decal!!
shiggins
Well, 6hp from the filter will just put the finishing touches on the LGT with the rest of my planned mods to make some serious power. +35 hp from this: http://www.turbonator.com/index.html[/url] +"significant hp and torque gains" from this: http://www.hrpworld.com/index.cfm?form_prod_id=826,846,363_3874&action=product + anywhere from 20 to 100 horsepower from this: http://www.horsepowermods.com/ and I should be at Stage II+ easy without having to remove that pesky dp, up, and heat shield. Damn, where'd I put that credit card........
Xenonk
man, that's nothing... I got +300 whp gains from my decals alone Keefe

She probably told you that because if you look it up under Subaru, they don't show any fitments... Strange. The P/N X-ref clearly shows it's a Subaru part, though. I see. I guess I'll try one out on my next oil change. If they are anything like the older Amsoil filters they should be really good. On other cars where I've used Amsoil filters the oil stays honey coloured for the entire oil change interval.
bugblatterbeast
I just checked with Amsoil. Their application guide has been updated to include the 05 LGT.
