brad21
Anyone have any ideas on getting the stock Subie square crossbars other than the dealer?
DSattler
Any reason why you want the stock bars? Yakima makes bars and attachments that reportedly work great. I plan to get some this week for my GT wagon.
brad21
I figgered I pretty much had to use the stockers. Yakima makes crossbars to fit in the Subie sliders on the roof? They gotta be square too to work with my existing rails...
JayBay
Thule makes a kit called the 759 which is for the 03 and 04 Foresters. It includes the feet, square cross bars and locks for $200. It isn't a perfect fit, but it's pretty darn close. I put one on my car and reefed on it, and it held just fine. I'll probably use that until they come out with a kit for the Legacy. andyo
It isn't a perfect fit, but it's pretty darn close.
There's absolutely no way I would ever trust a roof rack that wasn't designed to fit my car perfectly. The crossbars and towers I got from the dealer are definitely different than the Thule Forester kit, they mount WAY more solidly. Here's the thread with pictures of my set up: http://www.legacysti.com/viewtopic.php?t=1768 The Subaru crossbars are made by Mont Blanc and use a standard Thule crossbar (at least it's the same size and shape), all current Yakima and Thule accessories will fit. I highly recommend the Subaru setup.
