Pre-purchase inspection of the repaired Legacy 2.5i CVT

Hello,

I am considering to purchase MY14 Legacy Wagon 2.5i with CVT transmission. The car has "SUBARU B-5" stamped on its compliance plate.

The trick is that this car had two collisions:

  1. With a large animal - replaced bonnet and one of the front/side panels.
  2. With another car - replaced another front/side panel and part (?) of the front suspension.

The car has full service history and, according to the owner, was checked by mechanic who has confirmed it's OK.

It was noted by the owner that there is a faint "whistling" noise when the car is moving. I can hear it, the noise is rather mild.

Above-mentioned mechanic was not able to identify the exact reason but dismissed it as the minor issue due to the noise not manifesting when the car is idling with engine on.

As much as I like the car, my focus is on purchasing a safe vehicle that won't increase chances of getting into a road accident.

We have negotiated with the seller the following agreement:

  1. I pay for an independent mechanic to check the car 360°.
  2. If cost of repairs is under approximately 650 / £550 / $680, then it gets deducted from the car price and we proceed with the sale.
  3. If costs of repairs is more, then we negotiate.
If we are unable to reach the agreement, then the deal falls apart.
In this scenario, I am out of pocket roughly €190 /
    £170 / $200.
  4. If the car is consider to be materially unsafe / not roadworthy, then we don't proceed and seller pays mechanic's bill.
In this case I am not out of pocket, but spent some time and learned a lesson.

What are specific areas I should ask the mechanic to look at?

Hope these are enough to provide some guidance and advice regarding the vehicle.

Thank you!

Hmm... Seems like the video files were uploaded as sound-only. Here is the download link:

Also, any idea which motor is that? :) Does not look like FB25 and shouldn't be EJ... Censored VIN is:

---BRMK----------

Model description from the sales contract reads:

LIBERTY WAGON 2.5I AUTO MY14
