Sideview borescope

Recommended Posts

I was doing a leakdown test, and the quick connector on my tester, that connects the cylinder hose to the tester hose, fell apart. It is held together with 4 brass ball bearings, and those all fell out. One fell out in my hand, and I don't know when or where the other 3 fell out. There's a very real chance one or more of them went down the hose into the cylinder. I am not firing up this engine till I know.

My borescope has a 90 degree mirror attachment, but it's too big to go through a spark plug hole. Can anyone recommend an inexpensive borescope with a small enough mirror attachment to go into a cylinder, or an inexpensive articulating borescope?

I bought this a while back, Amazon has others like it and a bunch of other variations for under 75 dollars.

Shop vac with a tube small enough to go in the spark plug hole taped to the hose.....you will have to let the vacuum take in air elsewhere as it will be too restrictive but should work.

hmmm, after rereading the op, he thinks it fell inside the hose, and then into the engine. Is that even possible? I don't think the hose is made that way, theres gotta be something stopping crap from flying out the hose. first thing I would do is take that one ball you have and see if what your saying is even possible. I don't think that ball is big enough to fit through the end piece, I am looking at my leak down tester right now, and the ball bearings on my air hose are way to big to fit through the hole in the tube. I picked up a Depstech model WF010 a few years ago and it definitely fits through sparkplug holes.

Camera diameter is 9mm and the attachments (such as the mirror) are also 9mm threaded onto the camera.

You'll need an app called WiFi View on whichever device of your choosing but it's been a decent setup that has gotten me out of some jams.

Amazon sent me a $30 borescope whose sideview fits through the spark plug hole easily. Ordered @ 8 PM, delivered @ 5 AM, gotta love living a few miles from the the fulfillment center. Unfortunately, its light is insufficient to illuminate the cylinder. Grrr. Pretty sure nothing is in there, but gotta be sure. Articulating borescope arrives tonight.

In the unlikely event that a ball is in there, it won't be too hard to get out. A long skinny wand attachment (or very thin hose) from the compressor will blast 100PSI into the cylinder and leave enough space for the ball to fly out. Obviously critical to have the valves closed for that operation.

On the bright side, my new leakdown tester got much happier results than the old one.
