Construction has begun

Recommended Posts

No, they were that far in two hours. They started about 7:30AM. There are lots of details that get installed before they start installing the shingles. There were three guys doing it.

Here's the finished roof at 3:30 today.

its amazing what you can get used too when options are limited.

We have light fixtures that have been up for 20 years because the ones we wanted were out of stock. The replacements finally failed. Now we can't get the original or the replacements :)

We replaced the outside lights on the house early last year. Earlier this year, we bought the matching ones for the addition, so we wouldn't be in that boat. It was my fear, that they would be out of production.

The builder just stopped by.

The siding people may be here next weekend.

The electrician should be back soon to finish up, then we need the Town to do the inspection.

The concrete guys are a little behind schedule...

There are two bundles of shingles leftover, I put them in the basement. They can be used in a few years when we have the house shingles replaced.

Go figure concrete guys are behind lol. Sorry, was a sore subject for us all summer. First one in our "group" to sign up and put a deposit down and the last one to get the driveway extension. I also got the guys 3 or 4 other jobs. I know weather, weather, weather. They can only pour so many months, here at least and I think they bite off more than they can chew most times. Rent over.

Looking good Max.

Concrete is coming tomorrow at 6:30AM. Insulation on the walls is scheduled for Dec 15th, the sheetrock should be soon after that, then the heater will be installed, then the blown in insulation above the ceiling.

Yes, they were done the day after the pour. I'll get updated photos later today.

Just swept the floor. I think we're waiting for the town to do the inspection of the wiring rough in.

Builder stopped by today with siding samples. He brought 12ft pieces, The one we picked from his sample book back in June, and two others. Of course, the one that matches best is almost twice the cost per "square" as the others. So we'll order that, it's the best match. The cost is not that important when it's something you're going to see every day.

He said the Town will do the inspection on Tuesday, his guy's will fix the rot damage under the bedroom window when it's warm next week. The Insulation guys will be here on Wednesday to do the walls. They'll come back after sheet rock and heater install and do the blown in.

The siding got delivered today. :)

I see the electrician has power to a couple of outlets inside the garage, that makes it easier to use the leaf blower to clean it out.

Builder is fixing the window that had a leak under and on top of it. At first, they thought there may have been water coming from way above, as you could see water dripping off the siding above. It looked like it was coming from inside the siding. There was some white caulking on the wood above the window.

Once the window was out and some siding removed, they found the wood sheathing was dry. Must have been condensation for the frost overnight. They'll do what needed to make sure there is a good seal above and around the window as well as the window next to it.

Just talked with the builder and propane guy.

Tank for the heater will be installed Monday.

Insulation is now due early next week, as the Insulation Inspection is next Thursday.

We are next on the list for siding, but the guy's daughter is pregnant and due any day...

Sheet rock will be delivered next Thursday and installed Monday the 27th.

We talked about the driveway and getting the estimate, my ballpark for that is $10,000, he seemed to feel that was a good place to be around. Driveway is just over 100ft long and will be 10 or 12FT wide plus the additional parking around the side of the garage...

I'm sure they will need to some fill added for the additional parking area, not sure how that cost fits in.

No, it will be asphalt.

Funny you ask, we were talking about that today, with the warm Winter we're having...maybe... he might be able to get it done. The company he uses, which is known to be the preferred asphalt company for the past 40+ years, will come out and give an estimate. He also needs to have them do the driveway for a house he is near finishing the build on.

Just took this photo today, planning where the driveway needs to come out straight and then angle to the street. Notice that light colored wall block in the lower left, that is about where the angle will start down to the street. It's about 20ft out from the door.

I was gonna say hand over that 10g and get the driveway contracted! Makes sense to be asphalt for that price. Looks like it will be wider all together.

Looking good. Nice touch on the windows above the overhead doors. Looks nice and will help with some light.

Insulation today. R38 in garage ceiling, R49 in breezeway ceiling, R21 garage walls. They will come back after sheet rock and blow more in the garage ceiling.

Even without the garage doors, it's much quieter in there.

Oh, the gas pipe for the heater was also installed and set for its pressure test for the town.

Looking good, not sure if this might be something of interest on your end but I know when I get the chance to get my garage built up I plan to get a tv mounted to be able to watch sports or youtube videos when I am working on my car so I plan to ask the electricians to give me some outlets installed higher up so I can hide the cables and whatnot. Also plan on routing some audio cables for multi-zone configurations between the garage and backyard
